Samsung is # 14. Did I read that right?
Wouldn’t be my guess, not a fan of their video electronics.
Although I do have a washer & dryer of theirs. The washer needs a new clutch.

:EDIT: Well, Samsung is 14 on one of the lists, just not the one Penton was referencing.
On my phone, there were other categories and I ended up on one of them.

Default SL-HDR2 trial

Live HDR trial with SL-HDR2 (aka Technicolor HDR)
https://advanced-television.com/2018...-in-september/
https://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_ts...02v010101p.pdf
https://twitter.com/sfaure/status/1042714281639387136

SL-HDR2 = PQ10 (i.e. "HDR10") + SMPTE ST 2094-20/30 color volume transformation dynamic metadata.

When receiving SL-HDR2, HDR10-compliant TVs ignore the SL-HDR2 dynamic metadata and decode the PQ video.

Are there TVs compatible with SL-HDR2 for the time being?

Note to Geoff and gkolb - I kind of wish that Panasonic Hollywood (click on details on upper right - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/panason...ts-47975637423) still had an R&D consumer electronics presence in tinsel town a la thee old Panasonic Hollywood Labs (https://www.techradar.com/news/telev...od-labs-990692)

A study to better understand the impact of ambient illumination on contrast and shadow detail visibility and to further guide ambient compensation algorithms as touched on in the Addendum of the post above, will be presented by Scott Daly and Robert Wanat on Tuesday Oct. 23 at 4:45 P.M in the San Jose room at the upcoming 2018 SMPTE Annual Tech Conference....

I think aside from OLED people still regard LG as just standard big industry consumer electronic junk.

We're both wrong, he already said it was Panasonic which is a big surprise to me as I didn't think that they had that big of a global profile. Classic old-school Japanese company that's well respected in its field, sure. But a global brand superpower? Interesting.

that is pretty interesting. here in the US they've been relegated to a niche japanese brand that sells heavy duty electric razors and toothbrushes on amazon.

that being said, I exclusively owned panasonic plasmas from say 2006 up until 2014/2015

And for those consumed with staying ‘on topic’, not to worry, as Top Gun: Maverick will eventually receive an HDR grade.

Since this thread tends to be rather cutting edge with regards to many topics unrealized at the time by the audio video lay person (for example - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ar#post9754213) right now we’re discussing the very beginning of this motion picture production, e.g. principal photography…..like heading back down to San Diego.

How far as HDR come? For the sake of those who might be unaware, the importance of HDR in the eyes of at least one content deliverer, who namely ‘only wants an HDR deliverable’ from the colourist, timestamp 39 min. 50 sec. - https://vimeo.com/274774595#t=39m50s

This position is quite significant when one notes who is in the #2 position of the 100 most powerful people in entertainment list according to THR…..https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...b-iger-1143946

I think, I have a answer or great guess for what Netflix Calibrated mode is. All HDR streams going to Sony didplays will be DV. Netflix was the first OTT to adopt ICtCp. The EOTF will be calibrated to de_ICtCp instead of de_2000. The obvious D65 reference white will be included and a 2.2 gamma. ICtCp as a color difference and model.

ICtCp can be used for Rec.709 as well.

IF that is true, I would have to convince my wife to upgrade her subscription to HDR or 4K (whatever it is) instead of HD or standard.

She doesn’t care about the difference in SDR to HDR10/ DoVi when I play my 4K discs. On an Oppo and Sony 65 Z9D.
I don’t think she can really detect the difference.

You're doing something wrong if you're getting a major difference between DV and HDR10 on a ZD9 anyway.

No, No, my bad.
She can't tell between SDR and HDR, she doesn't care, even if she sees any difference.
