That article (through a mangled Google translate) seems to imply that the original discs from last year secretly had HDR10+ all along, and people are only now able to see it. I'd like to see some additional verification. Pics or it didn't happen. Does anyone on this forum have one of these discs and an HDR10+ setup?

The HDR10+ compatibility was not announced at the time of release.

Last Saturday the NBA game between Milwaukee and Toronto at the Fiserv Forum was broadcast live in 4K HDR in Canada. It didn’t get any play on the internets as to picture quality. Any Canadian membership here see it in HDR?

It has all the necessary window patterns. My point is that you really need software to calibrate an HDR display. It is such an interactive process to generate a 3D LUT that no one has the 10,000 possible window combinations on a disc to cover every value. I would never want to manually change patterns on a disc for this type of calibration. Of course I am taking about the 1D and 3D LUTs of an LG. If you are limited to white balance and CMS, then you have more than enough patterns for that.

With that said, I am considering writing a CalMAN source filter that controls the OPPO and my disc so it will seem automated. If other players have serial control with title / chapter capability, then I can write more sources.

Here is a link to the menu mock-up

This will give you an idea on what is on the disc. If you have any requests for something missing, I have about a week before I send everything to authoring.

Any questions, please let me know and I can try and explain stuff on the menus. I use PowerPoint to layout my menus since it is easy to draw boxes.

Every HDR pattern is on the disc 5 times. 10K, 4K, 2K, 1K and 600 nit versions. Sometimes that is just metadata and sometimes it means different versions on the patterns.

The primary montage may also be in HDR10+, just depends the authoring software. It was graded in 2020 and not P3. I will include a CIE diagram of every shot showing you the gamut of the shot. The P3 and 709 HDR versions were generated in ColorFront. The 2K, 1K, 600 and 100 SDR are Dolby Vision trim pass renders. We spent a lot of time adjusting the trim pass controls for the 100 SDR and 600. 1000 has a little bit and 2000 has very little.

Awesome, thanks!

Typo on page 3 - "Chroma Upsamling Error".

I don't know if you have it already, but I would like a "chroma sub-sampling mode for dummies" test picture / video.

I have the one attached, but it only flags up 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 clearly. When you're sending it other combinations, it looks odd and you have to "interpret" them.

I've seen test cards with some patterns you can use to guess what chroma sub-sampling mode the TV is in, but you have to know how to "interpret" them; the great thing about the purple image is the magic answer which it gives. So something as clear and simple as this - but also covering 4:2:0 and 4:1:1 etc would be superb.
