![]() Played with the demo today and preorder mine as well (the preorder discount and trade in program was too good to pass up). I noticed that hdr10+ recording is limited to 4k30 and is grayed out when 4k60 is selected in the settings. |

yea well letter box blu rays movies are 1920x800p.
Notice that 4K is the horizontal resolution while 1080p is vertical. letterbox movies are generally not considered "less than" 1080p resolution despite that fact. It's still 4k. |

Is HDR10 4K on a smartphone (5-6" screen) a huge improvement over 1080p standard?

My phone supports HDR and I would say that even on a small screen, HDR is a pretty big improvement.

Something newer -
Until Top Gun: Maverick comes out, the public-at-large will never get to experience – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...m#post15650436 nor the intended ambience of its inside – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15774685 But meanwhile, an acceptable substitute be McP’s ![]() P.S. Note to Steed, not to worry if you ever happen to visit, as there is recognition of football clubs there, other than Newcastle. |

Can you make 1080p HDR compatible? ...Probably not, and why do that anyway when you can spend more money to buy another TV/phone with 4K UHD resolution. Then you are HDR equipped, right? ...Maybe. That's what 4K is all about...HDR benefit. And now this year they are selling 8K TVs, with HDR, better HDR. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 02-27-2019 at 10:26 PM. |

As far as TVs, Sony released a couple of 1080p HDR sets in Europe a couple of years ago. Outside of that, all HDR sets are 4K. You can definitely have 1080p HDR, as there is nothing tying resolution to HDR, but we don't see it often in display technology or content. |

![]() Gotchya. The most important part is the PPi tho. A 4k screen should have around 800ppi at least. Quote:
Even on a 1440p phone, u can access the hdr contents on YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon. But only YouTube offers 1440p option, the others are 1080p. And yes, 1440p on YouTube looks better Than 1080p on the other 2. U may not be able to Pixel peep, but the picture is cleaner and more 3d looking the higher in resolution you go. |
