not really. 99% of blu rays are actually 1920x800. They're still considered 1080p though.

Like I said, 4K is a different axis than 1080p was in the HD world, so even based on 1080p/800p logic, it's still 4k.

Although as ray has mentioned the picture quality can be better, I’m with you in the sense that the very marginal increase in quality comes at too much of a cost (battery life). But as to the science of it all for those who intently watch their high PPI phones at an optimal viewing distance…..

And then, one has to also factor in what is the real limit of human vision, something of which many journalists and video engineers, etc. fail to comprehend, namely the contribution to the human visual system of Vernier acuity (Lecture 21 hyperlinked in the last paragraph here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15447005 .

(14.6 seconds of arc being far more sensitive than ‘20-20’ vision (1 minute of arc), ’20-20’ visual acuity being the parameter upon which all those charts you see on the internet are based and underestimates our visual capability....at least for those with normal brains)

As far as TVs, Sony released a couple of 1080p HDR sets in Europe a couple of years ago. Outside of that, all HDR sets are 4K. You can definitely have 1080p HDR, as there is nothing tying resolution to HDR, but we don't see it often in display technology or content.

Sony may be releasing those sets in Murica this year, as there's still a huge demand for HDTVs and they had them at CES. Samsung also quietly released HDR HDTVs in their last (and apparently final) generation of HDTVs, with two 32-inch models (1080P and 720P) making it to the Murican market last year.
