With your "one-way street" tone, I am respectfully bailing out of this discussion.
Goodbye mister, have a nice day. G.I. Joe HDR Last edited by LordoftheRings; 08-11-2019 at 07:01 PM. |

![]() aint ‘po. Robert Z., Waboman could probably do with this 4K Laser Ultra Short Throw Projector - http://technologyinsidergroup.com/bu...-partnerships/ just for the kitchen in his mansion house. Give Wabo a soft pitch as that's probably all that would be needed. |

How Netflix Is Using Its Muscle to Push Filmmaking Technology Boundaries
Arguably the most popular camera among Hollywood cinematographers is the ARRI Alexa, made by the century-old ARRI camera company. But as recently as six months ago, Netflix would not permit DPs to use this camera (other than the large-format Alexa 65) for its original programming because the standard model employed a 3.2K resolution sensor instead of the streamer's required 4K. Many Alexa fans argued that the difference between a 3.2K and 4K sensor doesn't create a noticeable difference in the footage and say the camera's dynamic range and other image characteristics make it a more pleasing choice. But Netflix stood firm on its decision: "The ARRI Alexa and Amira are fantastic cameras, and we stream plenty of content that was captured with these cameras. However, since these cameras do not have true 4K sensors, we cannot accept them for our 4K original productions," Netflix said in a statement. "For those who pay a premium for our UHD 4K service, we only deliver content that was shot and delivered at a true UHD 4K resolution." The result is some frustrated cinematographers. At November's Camerimage Festival in Poland, where Netflix execs said its requirement was designed to "protect your creative intent," things got a little heated. "This isn't about quality, this is about marketing," argued one DP in the audience. This past winter, ARRI released a new model with a 4.5K sensor, which some referred to as "the Netflix camera," acknowledging a key reason for its development. In the end, Netflix won. ![]() https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/be...daries-1229620 |

Well, bring it on, along with 8K already here first.
I understand the money principle, and I also understand the art of pushing the cinema envelope beyond the boundaries of money principles. I'm not the only one; other professionals of the cinema industry would love that too, but a force more powerful above restricts them...enslaves them. It's normal, it's the world we live in...money first. "Poetic justice" is second rate class without the price tag. It's a way of speech to say that money talks art walks. It takes a thousand years before we start appreciating the artists before us. One day it'll happen ... one way or another...streaming holographic 4D from ultra fast internet speed @ ultra high audio frequencies...5G and above. |

I was very surprised to see that ATSC 3.0 supported 3D. Most of the reports are dated between 2011 and 2015 which were the "golden years" for the latest version of 3D. Very little is said about Autostereoscopic 3D (no glasses) though.

I was also surprised to see it posted from you.
It simply doesn't hold traction in North America. Disney is out, there's almost zero 3D Blu-ray releases (0.001%), the very few are mostly 2D > 3D conversions (99.9%), no 3D TVs since 2016, hardcore 3D fans buy their 3D Blus from overseas, go to IMAX 3D theaters (and others real (((3D))) theaters), or move to China. Alita: Battle Angel only made $400 million worldwide (no interest), and in order to push 3D (Cameron/Rodriguez/FOX) they decided to include it with the 4K UHD Dolby Vision + HDR10+ disc. That is the leading BR title right now, but tomorrow it's all over baby blue with Avengers: Endgame. That doesn't augur too well with the future Avatar 2 in 3D. * Dolby Labs could have a shot @ it...Dolby 3D. They have Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema...they just need Dolby 3D. Anyway ... ![]() |

I have what I believe is the only 4K 3D theater in the USA: Dynatheater in Albuquerque, NM.
http://www.nmnaturalhistory.org/visitors/dynatheater I have yet to visit it. One of these days . . . |

As far as 3D for their Dolby Cinemas. They have passed on the format. I have noticed that IMAX is also showing less 3D presentations.

Thanks Lee for those numbers.
On a related matter ... • https://3dtotal.com/news/general/ali...-vfx-breakdown _____ * The Hobbit 3D trilogy (Extended Edition) is one of favs 3D experience @ home. If they would add 4K UHD HDR10+ on top of it that would be the cherry on top, with 3D Atomas (Atmos) sound of course. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 08-12-2019 at 11:11 PM. |

Blu-ray forum is not doing as good as say a month ago; lost 350 spots in ranking:
• https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/blu-ray.com But other similar sites fare much worst. One example (three times worst, lost 1,000 spots in ranking): • https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/avsforum.com Our saving grace is . . . Maverick.
