No offense to any Brick fans, but if others in the industry can do a 4K restoration on Brick (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109/ ), and TV shows like Columbo - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...o#post15342850
you’d think someone could at least do a new restoration on Animal House.

Where can we send our regards to the people in those pictures?

Checks have been cut and delivered, e.g. –

So, after that, then with your support at the box office or with the home deliverables for the movie when that time comes. Plus, in honor of the military personnel who were involved in the production, don’t forget to thank them, their fellow brothers and sisters for their service of training and actively protecting us when/if you ever get the chance.

Deployments, even to a non-war zone can still be demanding, esp. to loved ones, until returning home, e.g. –

b.t.w., the two upper pics are from a homecoming greet after an eight month deployment which included the first time ever that F-35B Lightning II aircraft was used in combat air strikes (in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Afghanistan).

Lightbulb Tip

Speaking of The Wizard Of Oz, just Google it, then it will bring you to this page ...

Now, look @ the top right corner...there's a pair of red shoes ... click on them (mouse or touchscreen) and see what happens ... trick-or-treat

Try to guess what you have to do now to get back to normal ...

more cultivation needed for this thread to get anywhere near past months’ viewership numbers while I’m away on a well-deserved sabbatical
here, search Top Gun in this earnings call and chew on it for awhile - https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-t...ranscript.aspx

Hisense expected to launch OLED TVs in the US next year

LG Electronics is suing Hisense for infringing on its TV patents but it may in fact be an attempt to hamper Hisense's launch of OLED TVs in the US next year, according to a report by Korea Herald.

Hisense has already launched its first OLED TV in Australia, the UK, and other parts of Europe. It is notable because Hisense, together with Samsung and TCL, was a founding member of the QLED Alliance, formed to combat OLED TVs.

Hisense is expected to launch its OLED TV line-up, Series X, in the US next year. That is according to Korea Herald who is reporting on a lawsuit filed by LG Electronics in which it claims that China's Hisense is infringing on four of its TV patents.

Besides Hisense, Vizio will also launch its first OLED TV in the US next year, according to an official statement made by OLED panel supplier LG Display. Samsung is also investing heavily in OLED TVs, with plans to start mass production of 'QD-OLED' in 2021, while TCL is exploring a hybrid QD and OLED technology.

With Vizio and Hisense both launching OLED TVs next year, competition in the segment looks poised to increase.

Interesting to see how the bit rate of Apple TV+ original shows compares to HD Blu-ray discs.

Quote:
So that's approximately 1.5-2x the video bitrate of a typical HD Blu-ray disc (due to HEVC vs. AVC) and around half of a typical UHD Blu-ray disc (also using HEVC).
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/flatfor...p?f=31&t=12779

I have the free trial on my Amazon Fire Stick 4K, and while the content of their original shows is garbage, the picture quality is indeed pretty impressive.

HD BD is around 32 mbps average doing HD signal. UHD requires 4x the size of bandwidth from the pixel count alone. That doesn’t include the additional data for HDR.

Not really, since HEVC is more efficient than AVC.

I’m referring to the use of equal codec.

Besides, people should judge with their eyes. I’ve had ATV+ since 2 weeks before its launch, in dark areas, that 40 mbps is still not high enough to eliminate all macroblocking on my 65” and projector.

Correct. In terms of the uncompressed masters then yes, they are literally 4x as big because they're not changing the compression according to the content, they're not compressing it at all: they're just storing 4x as many pixels regardless of it being the busiest frame ever or just a black screen. And HDR adds nothing to the relative size of the image whatsoever, any 'data' required is just tiny packets of metadata unless we're talking about a Dolby FEL.

But when you get into the realm of consumer interframe compression, not just HEVC vs anything but in general, then it works by setting a reference frame and then throwing away everything else that's constant from frame to frame in order to encode the differences that remain, rebuilding the image using that reference frame compared to the difference data. It's really quite clever that we get this stuff looking as good as it does.

In that kind of context then of course the more pixels you have the more data you're going to be shifting, but you're also going to be having a lot more pixels that are similar to each other than not which is what interframe thrives on, I mean we don't have pixel-level content in average 2K content never mind 4K stuff. So they can afford to compress stuff far more heavily using a next gen codec, which is the irony whenever we talk about "better compression" on a 4K disc as we don't really mean it's LESS compressed, quite the opposite relative to the sizes of the respective 2K and 4K masters, we just mean it's got less visible compression than X other version.
