Superb little article. Not making any bombastic statements (well, apart from the headline ) and presenting the facts. They make a great point about DVD, that as quickly as it peaked it was sliding down the slope on the other side. Disc revenues are falling year upon year upon year but 4K disc spending is up, disc is just going to get ever more niche and specialised from here on out. It'll be dead in the mainstream sense soon enough but us diehards should be able to keep it going a la vinyl.

Default Multi-HDR smartphone

Smartphones based on Snapdragon 865 can record video in Dolby Vision, and also in HDR10, HLG and HDR10+.

Does the use of PQ EOTF enough to consider any content HDR?

Also, I was wondering if the 200 nit ceiling of the first 2-3 episodes(assuming things may change in newer episodes), that it was used for color saturation?

If you're talking about the Mando there's plenty more than 200 nits in the HDR10 streams when viewed on their own. What the app is doing to it another matter.

Thursday Night Football is now streaming in HDR10 on both Roku and Fire TV 4K in both the Fox Sports and Fox Now apps. Hopefully they’ll do the Super Bowl in HDR.

It doesn't slow down, even without Maverick, poles, Chuck, Jerry, Tom, Top Gun ... all that HDR stuff.
There's a very fine batch of good fellows here ...

Although a bit dated, scroll down past the High Dynamic Range (HDR) paragraph to the paragraph titled to the HDR TV Standards which are still applicable, here -
https://app.spectracal.com/Documents...emystified.pdf
b.t.w., as a new information supplement to the mention of APL in that ^ article by Portrait Displays, I will add that there is a problem when we apply APL to HDR…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcPv6KOPxFg#t=6m10s
watch for at least 3 min. to the use cases to get the gist of it

Gemini Man (Ang Lee); next month on 4K UHD HDR Blu-ray encoded in 60FPS
https://www.comicbookmovie.com/sci-f...ssible-a171994

But Gemini Man doesn't stand a chance @ the Academy Awards film Oscars.
My best bet is on The Irishman (number one in few, 3 to 5 category wins, among the top best picture prize), and "perhaps" Once Upon a Time in...Hollywood for couple statuettes, and Joker also for couple (best actor and best original music score).

* 1917 coming up ... in one single long shot, lasting couple hours! ...No pole.
It's the cinematography I'm most interested in, along with the music score.
But for pure storytelling and full engagement, nothing comes close to The Irishman, the best picture of 2019.

Joker was refreshing, very.
Once Upon a Time in...Hollywood was also very refreshing; in particular the ending. The Irishman was justifiable, more than refreshing.

This post was sponsored by Crampton And Moore. If you are looking to buy a new Television in the near future, we ask that you consider Crampton And Moore. Just ask for Richard, and tell him Vincent from HDTV sent you. He will hook you up with the best prices.

Seriously I believe that might be a post count issue.

Hopefully, with it being offered on disc to collectors, there will be less pre-judgement as to the value of HFR with cinematic content by people who never saw the theatrical iteration to begin with but still criticized the look online. Nevertheless, I stand by what I previously said for a value which cannot be denied whether one is a fan or not of HFR for movies - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post16969054

not to worry, as I don’t check in here nearly as often as I used to
with the exception of yesterday-today, now probably once a week primarily to check PMs, although Geoff remains a regular

meanwhile, you’re not watching the Manchester derby right now?
we are well informed as to Prem football too here on Blu-ray. com -> https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post17136832

My sole firsthand experience in viewing Scottish football was once when I was a very young whipper snapper a friend and I broke from the rest of our group who were doing something boring that day like shopping or whatever and went on over from where we were staying at the Caledonian ?sp on Princess St. to watch Hearts play Celtic at Tynecastle Park. One thing I will never forget is that at least for where we got tickets there were no seats, not even rudimentary benches (unlike American football) and the supporters stood the whole time.

also, word of advice, don’t mess with Charles (what imdb - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3158241/ doesn’t reveal -> he not only rolls trackballs on color corrector control surfaces, but also, he’s an Instructor - Jeet Kune Do and adept at other disciplines too)

P.S.
We welcome rethinking on any matter, e.g. – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post15995016

Small world like. I live in Gorgie. What decade was that? I can imagine it was a rather rough experience if it was the 70s or 80s lol. World class stadiums? Nah, concrete terraces, chain link fencing, pitches that look like a WW1 battlefield. Food and drink? Suspect pies washed down with bovril. But the more discerning gentleman would probably have had a can of Tennants with a half naked lady printed on it. As the empty tin could be used as a toilet once it's been drank.
