Although many readers here may not qualify for access to some committee meetings, future and past, at the ASC Clubhouse, e.g. – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post12849032

so, locals might want to take advantage of the Open House this Saturday which is free and open to one and all -

Discontinued Oppo 203, $799 Cambridge CXUHD (If you can still buy it) , $997 Pioneer LX500, are other players that support all three HDR and work correctly. Phillips, LG, Sony don't do HDR10+.
The only in production Blu-ray players that supports HDR10+ and all 3 HDR formats is the two latest Panasonic models. Pioneer has promised to come out with a HDR10+ firmware update and then will be able to support all 3 HDR formats. However to my knowledge that firmware update has not been released yet for the Pioneer.

That's the missing link, and nothing @ CES 2020 ... that's why I posted the link yesterday ...

Like John said the Panasonic player (820) here in North America, but with a less than perfect Dolby Vision implementation.

We are not lucky today with a universal BR 4K player that is both full featured (all video and audio codecs) and full performing and bullet-proof and good value (affordable for the masses). The King is dead ... Oppo, and nobody will ever be able to fill those shoes like the master he was.

Today you need two 4K BR players for what yesterday only one could do.
These are our times in HDR reality diversification.

Eh? Since when? Can you point to a recent technical source of this, please? First time in two years I have seen this mentioned! Surely it would have been fixed in a firmware update, or Dolby would not have allowed it to be released in the first place.

Since the UB820 has the same chipset as the UB9000 (the main differences are audio outputs and a more rugged build on the 9000), I would have expected that we would have heard a lot more about any scandal of a Dolby Vision output not being accurate from a player carrying that badge.

I got some questions for the ppl that know more about HDR.

If you don't have a Dolby Vision TV, can you still watch the same content in HDR10, 10+. Does it downscale so to speak. So lets say I'm watching netflix on my non-dolby vision set and I select a dolby vision show, will that play in the HDR, HDR 10+ that my set supports?

Bonus question, does the same thing go for Dolby Vision content on blu-rays? I was a bit confused researing HDR on blu-rays because even thou certain discs support dolby vision, it doesnt seem to say so on the box art. It says HDR experience blah blah blah, like Alita Battle Angel, which is supposed to be in dolby vision. Will this still play in HDR and HDR 10+ on a Samsung TV?

Cheers guys and gals.

Yes

Yes

* HDR10+ if the source content is encoded, and if the source player supports it.

Why? He’s been shown his bogus claim of fake hdr was wrong why trust a word he says.

Hah! He's right about the player though. Chapter 2 of the DV montage on Spears & Munsil UHD Benchmark (with the horses in the snow) clips by a ridiculous amount on the Panny, in low latency mode at least.

Excellent and fantastic, thanks so so much for this! Very puzzling, I presume it hasn't been "fixed" (assuming the Oppo is correct) in a firmware upgrade. I need to make a note of this in my buying spreadsheet

At least it puts my mind at rest that I definitely shouldn't spend triple the money of a UB820 on the UB9000 under some delusion that it's perfect. I'm not in the "high-end" market and never will be, and would have resented being forced up there just to get a player that basically works.

It's revealing (and all the more curious) that both the Pioneer and Panasonic have the exact same issue with their Dolby Vision outputs.
