Yes that, and also 8K TVs having the better video chips.

And as we learned when 4K first came out - resolution wasn't enough to make it successful. That is why WCG & HDR were added.

Do you really believe that here, at the dawn of 8K, all we will get is an increase of resolution? That would be naïve.

Naive? I have actually tested 4K vs 8K eShift and I can easily see the difference on my 96” 21:9 screen from my usual 9ft viewing distance. Have you actually done the testing yourself?

The only way manufacturers can make 8K TVs appealing is to dumb down 4K TV and put all the advanced features in 8K TVs. They also need a gimmick. For 4K TVs it was HDR which made a big difference in picture quality. Perhaps for 8K TV it could be 3D!

And there you have my earlier point - immature technology. Video transfers that don't take full advantage of the new technology on often beta hardware (just how much actual REC2020 is there right now?). People not knowing how to calibrate to the new standards.

I don't know why you guys keep harping on this. 8K isn't really even beta tech...it's still in alpha as far as I'm concerned. We'll reassess it again in the future - fairly. But for now I don't see the point in either praising it or condemning it.

Fixed for you.

I want fully 12 bit panels, full rec2020 coverage, improved near-black rendering, perfect mura uniformity, better anti-reflective coatings, longer lifespans, zero vignetting, etc.
A higher resolution is at the absolute BOTTOM of my wish-list of things I want next.
But if they were to put those things only on the 8K panels and not the 4K panels, that would induce me, against my will, to buy an 8K panel.

Robert works because he loves what he is doing. You can see it in his enthusiasm and his constant quest to continue learning about the newest technology.

I actually shudder to think of all the money (I'm not Rolls Royce rich or anything, it's still a hell of a lot of money for a regular schnook though) I've spent on home cinema over the last 20+ years chasing this and that technological development. I'm done doing all that. Don't even have a separate sound system any more.

I started when I was a teen. I built amplifier and tuner kits. Later I even built a Heathkit front projection TV kit which took over 40 hours to built and calibrate.
