You can take that a couple ways. With projection and larger FOV scenarios, it doesn't take as much light to get a higher perceived light level. So depending on the screen size they were using, it may actually be overkill. You are also likely losing a lot of dynamic range because of the higher nits because projectors don't have fixed black levels and raising overall peak brightness typically hurts black levels even more. So with this high brightness DLP (which already has a VERY low overall dynamic range) you're making it even worse just to get a bit more peak brightness that really only helps with the highlights and makes the main part of the image (the reference SDR range) worse. Using projectors and treating them like flat panels is not the way to go. Getting brighter and brighter typically makes the situation worse if we are talking about HDR and projectors. The point of the format is HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE, not HIGH BRIGHTNESS. It goes back to my analogy of audio. There is HUGE difference between HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE and just being LOUD. In this case, they are bright, not dynamic. Best case dynamic range in their situation is probably around 1000:1 sequential contrast. In my system I'm around 30K:1, with a peak around 100 nits and far superior tone mapping. But the difference between the darker and brighter parts of the image are far greater, so separation is more obvious as opposed to EVERYTHING being bright.

Can anyone please support me. Just trying to find a definitive answer on all things HDR in relation to LG oled TV.

My TV Is the 65E6V from LG. It has a couple of settings that I want to know more of like OLED light and contrast.

I understand these should differ depending on whether I'm watching 4K content, 4K content with HDR or 4K content with Dolby Vision. I understand there is also an HDR10 setting correct?

Reason I ask is because my feeling is that I'm losing quite a bit of detail in dark scenes, like Netflix Better Call Saul for example. But also PS4 Pro gaming like night scenes in Far Cry 5.

So how high should I set the Oled light setting? I hear the full 100 for UHD content, but lower when its DV.

Thanks

I know this is off topic but it is frustrating me with this thread. Is there some setting here that sends me an email when someone quotes or tags me in a post? This happens with other forums, but I can't find anything that allows for that here. I've seen people tag me or quote me, but I'm never alerted so I end up missing the posts completely. Any help is appreciated!

I know of no auto-alert to one’s email on being quoted here like they have so implemented on AVS - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post17538860

Especially comes in handy when one is busy and can only give folks a short notice ^ heads-up. Speaking of which, for those interested, sorry about the late notice for this interview which is still on-going….

Thanks. That's a bummer. I'm pretty busy and threads move fast so it is hard to keep up or remember to come back around and see follow up. Would be nice to have this function so that I could keep up!

totally agree, which is why I really only have the time to read this and maybe one, or at most, a portion of a couple other threads and often can't keep up with those between professional and family demands which for me, always take priority

One other nice feature on AVS is the ability to keep track of what your have read in individual threads. Here if you only have the time to look at one or two threads it will after several hours mark all the threads as read, so it is difficult to catch up on the unread threads you are interested in.

Kris click Home (upper left) look at the pane on the right and click Site Settings under Settings. Under Community there is Quoted posts push notification.

I have not set this up for myself so I do not know if it works. I do get release and price match notifications via email.

not me, it’s Ferg the fighter pilot technical advisor that’s pictured

b.t.w., that dry lake bed filming location was not at China Lake nor Fallon, as reported on much of social media at the time the first trailer launched

Default iQIYI & AV1

iQIYI, an innovative market-leading online entertainment service in China, has recently launched support for AV1.
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301050210.html

iQIYI, among others, supports Dolby Vision.

AV1 video streaming

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-h...l#post57380706

Apparently AV1 video can be streamed directly to AV1 compliant TV like LG 2020 OLED TV
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/review....&id=1585020920

Dolby Vision movie encoded in AV1 >> Internet >> LG 2020 OLED TV: AV1 decoding: decoded Dolby Vision video signal > processing > panel

or via a cheap AV1 compliant streaming box like SDMC DV8957.
https://androidtvbox.eu/amlogic-s905...dv8919-tv-box/

Dolby Vision movie encoded in AV1 >> Internet >> SDMC DV8957 streaming box > decoded Dolby Vision video signal >> HDMI >> Dolby Vision TV: processing > panel
