VitreaLab Developing Laser Backlight

Quote:
VitreaLab has a different approach. By using a laser writing technique in the glass backlight, they can create millions of tiny (a few microns) single-mode waveguide elements to direct laser light to each-and-every sub-pixel in the display. A tiny mirror is also placed below each sub-pixel to extract the light toward the LCD panel.

There are many potential benefits to this approach. For one, the laser light is polarized and the polarization is not destroyed when traversing the waveguide. That means nearly a 50% boost in brightness (or reduction in power) immediately. And, one can eliminate the color filters. Both combine to offer either an 80% reduction in power or a 5X luminance boost. Secondly, the light should emerge with better collimation reducing cross talk and increasing the native contrast of an LCD panel. Thirdly, by choosing the wavelengths correctly, one should be able to achieve >95% of the BT.2020 color gamut coverage.

I kinda liked it. I hope some of the professional cinematographers out there don't see some of the scenes as being too dark with their home TVs.
The wife watched that solo. I was probably watching something with zombie alien sharks and ninjas with laser beams. In HDR, of course.

Coincidentally, someone asked the same thing at AVS the other day. AFAIK, we won’t know until Peacock starts streaming HDR.

Undoubtedly the free version (which I’m using) wouldn’t pass HDR.
We’re already paying for three other streamers, so not planning on expanding that outlay.

Well, recently Peacock certainly has been poaching, exclusively, a lot of Premier league soccer matches from England, which normally in the past would only have been on NBCSN, CNBC or the flagship NBC itself….so may be.

puddy, do you know if Peacock shakes hands with FireTV? as I have that stick in the old 4K tv (Vizio) which I use for viewing soccer matches in the garage while working on my bikes.

no jokes from Wabo or PeterTHX about how much multi-tasking one can do while watching soccer in general

Unfortunately, NBC and Amazon have not struck a deal yet. So no app in their app store. I've been told you can sideload the app on the stick. Otherwise, depending on how old your Vizio is, they have the Peacock app on their Smartcast screen. Or you can cast the app from Android, AirPlay from iOS.

I’ll wait for NBC and Amazon if/when to make nice

mrtickleuk et anyone , can you tell from his accent what part? of England Kevin Salvidge is from -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py_rVP1u8-w#t=7m54s ,

as he’s way easier for me to understand than Tim Roth, although I love Tim’s performances in various movies and shows.

I'm not very tuned to these things I'm afraid! He doesn't sound like a Northerner that's all I can really say. Nor Midlands, nor westcountry. Somewhere south?

Wiki says that Tim Roth is from London (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Roth#Early_life).

There are people that say they can pick out accents to individual towns, but in the modern age where people travel so much and are exposed to so many different accents in the media, we seem to be on a long-running transition to some kind of "average" accent. It may take a century though. Having said that, I get a kick out of little children only a few years old, speaking with strong local accents; I've seen it happen with friends' children!
