Default 80 mbps streaming service from Sony

I have been thinking about this since I got fiber at home (currently 600 Mbps), why not have a premium service with bitrate above UHD disks? This is not quite there yet but very interesting:

That's only in the U.S. I think? Also, isn't it PPV? I don't know much about it, but anyway, the more the merrier.

Since i got my X950H last year I've been slowly playing around with the settings. Recently, I've found i dislike HDR10, and lean more to HLG and Dolby Vision.

Whenever the HDR10 was activated, i noticed the image looked like it had a greyish screen over it. The colors weren't as bright; it just looked drab.

Dolby Vision does make the image darker, but doesn't dull the colors; to my eyes at least.

Oh! That's not how I interpreted it at all! At the end he talks about a website, not a video, where someone has done hundreds of analyses of the last jedi.

To me, that points to those websites and reddit threads where they pixel-peep hundreds of screenshots (rather than Vincent's videos where he had a more general discussion about the labelling on the back of the disc). The same people have been doing their nut in over the "sharpening" and "processing" on the recent Lord of the Rings movies.

Fascinating to hear his process though, that he doesn't like doing a scene by scene transform when doing HDR trim passes, or even when doing a simpler transform from one space to another. He'd rather do a 'one light' pass that maintains the integrity of what was originally shot on a global level, presuming that the content has been shot to have a unified 'look' (as most productions would do).
Agreed.

Agreed.
Nah, he specifically mentions the "fake HDR" label and this guy who has thousands of followers, there's only one person who fits that bill who's been throwing the "fake HDR" tag around with abandon. And what is YT if not a website?

They have a UK arm too and no, it's not PPV. You pay to download their own bespoke encodes of whatever movies they're offering, many of which have bigger file sizes than the UHD disc equivalents.

I don't think some people understand what dynamic means.

Quote:
dynamic noun
plural dynamics
Definition of dynamic (Entry 2 of 2)
: a force or factor that controls or influences a process of growth, change, interaction, or activity : a dynamic force or factor

Looking at the page, are they implying they cropped Venom to fill the screen?

The beginning of the promotion seems to indicate possible release dates for the tvs

The required bitrate for the 4k movies is extremely high. Should be good quality at least.

Now, HDR10+ has been updated with HDR10+ Adaptive, a hardware feature on TVs that uses a light meter to measure ambient light in a viewing environment and adjust the HDR output accordingly, for optimized viewing. I didn't see that coming, but I suppose it's useful.

Didn't see it coming? 10+ is Samsung copying Dolby's idea with dynamic metadata, so just as Dolby IQ became a thing then HDR10+ Adaptive followed like night follows day.

HDR Misconceptions: With David Meyer of CEDIA - MHTG Tech Tips

BrightSide Technologies

Quote:
On April 25, 2007 Dolby Laboratories, Inc. announced that it completed the acquisition of Brightside Technologies. (Dolby, the company responsible for licensing its surround-sound technologies to consumer electronics manufacturers.) Dolby renamed the BrightSide technology to Dolby Vision. In 2009, SIM2 Multimedia announced the professional version of their Solar Series display using it would be available Q2 2010[3] with 16 bits per color, and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 (19.9 stops).
