Lots of uncertainties remain at this point. Ultimately, studio execs calculation hinges upon people maintaining compliance to current recommended public health measures and the July standing of the race between getting any EUA approved vaccine into enough peoples’ arms as well as the virus’s constant mission to mutate and overcome our active immune defense and how extensive a more dangerous variant has spread by then. The last thing we would want is for Top Gun: Maverick or any feature film shown theatrically to become infamous for being the cause of a super spreader event in some state.
I am doing a lot of reading since a fair while. All good stuff...past, present and future...including HDR of course, and Tom and Chuck.

And in all frankness I really don't know when our world will get back to normal, including this HDR thread right here. Yes, Maverick is still an asset as the aerial shots in that film look HDR splendid. But we just don't know for certain when and if we'll be able to see it on the big screen in a near future...say this year.

We do what we can, and we can always do better; have a safe and peaceful weekend.

Anyone see the new 40" 5k2k curved monitors from Dell and LG shown at CES2021? I think Dell uses the LG panel, but the Dell monitor that was available from yesterday for $2,100 is rated at 300 nits and is not HDR (and 60Hz max.), but the LG monitor is listed as HDR10, so min. 1,000 nits (and 72Hz max.) with a release date unannounced but expected later this year (summer or fall?). If correct, appears LG is going to come out with their own monitor with a similar panel but just a bit better on the specs.

I haven’t, but the peanut gallery seems unimpressed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxn-...emb_title#t=1s

although, if it can do HDR, it would be an upgrade over the older Dell curved monitor -

Hi! I am renovating my house and the cinema is very important to me. As I want to improve all the technical aspects regarding my projection system, I bought several SUPRA AOC Optical HDMI 2.1 cables for my JVC X7000. Does anyone have experience with it? It seems that with this cable I will improve the 4K HDR viewing experience and I will be able to see 8k media in the future without problems (retiring my dear X7000). Thanks

And perhaps any other local SoCal members, their parents or grandparents who qualify and are in the Providence healthcare system, this sign up is much more productive than dealing with the Othena app for Disneyland, etc., so book ASAP - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0...aa3fe3-stjude2

With regards to my just completed Saturday ride, back home and safe, but honestly, I don’t do nearly any of this rad stuff, except maybe for a bit of low air and carving berms like in the scene shot thru the woods in Bend Oregon….

Wow Penton, you are plunging into deep uncharted waters.
But anything "upbeat" (underwater) is worth exploring @ this point in time and in our planet's space. We need high dynamic range vaccines, effective for all variants from mutations. ⚕

Any courageous forecasts by any of our visionaries reading, willing to step up and make a prediction as to where, in 6 years, Cognitive Processing - https://www.etcentric.org/sonys-cogn...t-gen-tv-sets/ will be positioned in the industry in terms of it being a significantly useful image quality improvement? Marketing hype deprioritized over time ?, or

will it become so useful that its gained a solid foothold year-to-year resulting in more widespread adoption along with continued refinement (along with even more powerful cognitive processing), as opposed to the implementation of other more traditional thought of engineering improvements, e.g. native consumer 12 bit panels, higher peak luminance capability, etc.?

Vincent, pertaining to the preface in the ^ YouTube video, I am concerned about your country’s latest export, namely the B117 strain (known to most people in SoCal as the ‘UK variant’) becoming the dominant coronavirus strain in the U.S. over the next several weeks/months and given its increased transmissibility leading to many more infections -> more sickness and hospitalizations thusly threatening the theatrical release date of this feature film - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post18569947 .

As there are just not enough trained COVID-19 sniffing dogs (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...ports-stadiums ) to go around, other than for the premiere and perhaps a few theaters in order to facilitate quick throughput screening in the event that we have a summer surge due to this variant.

However, that said, you Brits do export some good stuff , namely the Case Study featured in the Jan./Feb. issue of the Journal –

https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9335681

Too bad I am not a supporter of either team that made it into the Final in the BBC R&D trial. Were you? Where does your allegiance lie…City, United…Liverpool? Inquiring minds, you know. Throw out a hint in one of your upcoming YouTubes.

Did you really just sneak in a post about covid and foosball hidden under a Vincent video disguise? *Sigh* Talk about fake HDR.

I've read this OLED HDR sensors article yesterday ...

https://www.techradar.com/news/futur...o-we-need-them

Sensors are good on TVs, as they are on cars and planes and boats and portable phones.
What do you think?
