10 bits ...

Having 8k yet inexplicably without a true 12bit panel is completely the wrong direction of travel. No-one needs 8k in the home, unless people are going to buy us all bigger houses to make the viewing distances work, and pay for the panels. All IMHO, of course.

Let's finish 4k first, with proper 12bit panels, wider gamuts etc, BEFORE moving on to 8k.
Sony new top gun 4K HDR OLED TV; let's move to this for now.

In 2025 we'll see where the industry is ... Mini LED & Mikro LED, ...how advanced HDR would be, with all the nits and the luts and the nuts and boats.
* Godzilla and Kong will be proud; we'll make sure of that. For now those two together look and sound awesome.

I presume you’re an aficionado of Wreck beach.

I’m not sure. I think they said 12,000 and change. I know the stadium can hold about 70,000 normally, so pretty good, considering. The Italian people there and watching on TV really deserve some good times during the tournament for all that country has been thru.

For those who like to know how to make the sausage (by Apple). Includes Apple’s solution for making HDR displays provide optimal response in all environments - https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2021/10161/

* With regards to terminology - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...by#post9489764

For the historical record, Dolby initially used the phrase Extended Dynamic Range (EDR) – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...al#post9174207
before later pretty much settling on the term HDR.

Quite amazing the cameras on the phones today ...
https://screenrant.com/galaxy-s21-ul...ssional-video/

What's next, shooting Cinema IMAX HDR10+ home videos? ...In 8K, with iPhones and Android phones.

Knowing IMAX, they'd slap their label on a phone.

The IMAX logo is too big to print on an iPhone; on a M1 iPad Pro (12.9") it would do.
...Or a Samsung tablet: Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (14.6" screen)

Back to HDR/Dolby Vision and iPhone 12 Pro Max ...

The short take ...

One a bit longer ...

Comparison ...

The cameras on the latest iPhone Pro Max and on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra they do much more than just HDR ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...yRoxY#t=12m17s

I've watched 100 videos and comparisons of cameras on phones.
To make it very simple (if the latest technologies on cameras with 8K and HDR, Optical x10 Zoom, Digital x100 Zoom, Telephoto, etc. is your bag on cell phones) ...

So…. ‘Dolby Vision’ in a phone is 10-bit 4:2:0 video captured in HLG. And the metadata generated is discarded anyway if the footage is exported into a professional grading space. What an absolute joke

Would be cool to see more films released in HFR. Wish the Hobbit movies had been released that way on disc. I watched Gemini Man in a theater and didn't notice anything non-cinematic about it.

I must be living under a rock as I had no clue about the particulars of the broadcast of the Tokyo Olympics. Wondering if they have been viewing it in HDR -
