[Dolby Vision] "Dynamic metadata allows creators to fine-tune the picture while performing HDR color correction":
https://www.newsdirectory3.com/bilib...eo_definition/ . Display perception and Color Appearance Model https://www.avsforum.com/threads/uni...#post-50666105 Hunt effect (one of many color appearance phenomena) & consequent color correction: "To illustrate the Hunt effect, Poynton suggested we think of the color of flowers in sunlight, then think of the color of those same flowers at twilight. The color of the flowers has not changed, but our perception of the colorfulness of them has – they don’t look as colorful in dim light. His point: "If you capture the flowers in daylight and show on a display with only 300 nits of brightness, the flowers will look like they are captured at twilight." Since displays cannot show the full dynamic range of the natural world, we have to apply "artistic intent" to alter the image to produce what is desired. In other words, if you want the flowers rendered at 300 nits to have the visual colorfulness that they did in sunlight, you have to add more color. It is not accurate, but it conveys the artistic intent." ![]() . Metadata & HDR formats: different metadata, different rendering color perception .. not to worry ^ Chris, the forecast for Thursday in Vegas is a tad cooler than 112 degrees - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...=1000528279550
b.t.w. folks, although as noted in the pop-up ad, Tom (who is certified to fly other aircraft) was not allowed to pilot the F/A-18 Super Hornet (and actually sat in the back seat of the F/A-18F), others around did so – ![]() |

I assume that's why all devices that are getting it right now are only displaying the HDR10 or 10+ layer. Hopefully apps and/or devices get updated soon with DV 8 compatibility. |

Dolby Vision with its dynamic tone mapping provides more benefits to picture quality (admitted by the authors of this paper, both of whom b.t.w. were involved in the standard for UHD Blu-ray back in the day); that said, in regards to static metadata (HDR10), there’s this recent paper and their perspective - https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9508136

![]() Tom flies (in) an actual F/A 18-F like a naval flight officer (i.e. a weapons systems officer) - in other words, he hasn’t been inserted in one vis-à-vis CGI for Top Gun: Maverick, but he doesn’t pilot or drive it as is done by the aviator in the front seat. Firstly, although, Tom has flight time training in other jets (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post16463278), ultimately I don’t think he had what the NAVY considered as the required advanced pilot training in order to actually drive an F/A 18. Additionally, I think there may be a Department of Defense directive restricting civilians (exception being certified test pilots with secret clearance) from piloting NAVY, Air Force, etc., militarized aircraft. Heck, civilians are restricted from even buying militarized aircraft, afaik. And by militarized, I don’t necessarily mean armed, but equipped with any type of system which has national security classifications or ITAR restrictions associated with them of which I assume both the F/A 18-Fs and Es used for the film had installed at the time. As an aside, a parameter of which all studios involved in theatrical distribution pay close attention to (and was on the minds of many at CinemaCon) is Comfort in going to the movies - https://morningconsult.com/return-to-entertainment/ and as of last Sunday, only 45% of all adults. Hoping this trends up by November. P.S. Is your Reavon player review forthcoming? |

For those who just can’t tolerate traditional contact lenses and who would prefer vision correction without glasses, check out scleral lenses (they don’t irritate your cornea as do other contacts because they don’t sit on your cornea). Consult with a qualified practitioner having a fellowship with the Scleral Lens Society such as, for SoCal locals, Thanh Mai and who practices in Costa Mesa at Insight Vision Center and is an upcoming speaker in November for this lecture series - https://www.eye.uci.edu/lectures/316...ure_Series.pdf |
