For anyone interested, Home Theatre Forum have recently had the chance to speak to individuals from ILM, Skywalker Sound and LucasFilm Ltd about the upcoming Saga.
Their first interview, LucasFilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu Ray, is available here.

2nd interview with LucasFilm is now up, as is a report from the Digital Bits (which is similar to the Home Theatre Forum post).

Well, at least Yoda is now CGI in TPM according to that second interview, which is excellent.

Why are people favoring CGI Yoda over Puppet Yoda?

I prefer Puppet Yoda myself as it made TPM feel more more like Star Wars, when considering that Yoda was a puppet in "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return Of The Jedi".

I always felt that CGI Yoda just looked to fake to be believeable in "Attack Of The Clones" and "Revenge Of The Sith".

The puppet Yoda looked older and worse than the original trilogy (not complaining about the OT Yoda by the way), which isn't what it was supposed to be. So consistency is key, I thought the CGI Yoda in 2 and 3 looked great. He is younger in the prequels after all.

I think they needed the CGI Yoda for Episode II, if we had puppet Yoda for the first two hours of the film then he turned to CGI and started jumping around like a flea like he did. Audiences would have been more cynical. There's no transition with CGI.

Yeh but aint CGI Yoda only around 20-25 years younger?

There will be a DNR debate arguing any digital manipulation will make Yoda lose his weathered and wrinkled face. And also puppet Yoda lose his muppet cloth 'fur'

So if CGI Yoda is going to be worked into "The Phantom Menace", does that mean that he'll be worked into "The Empire Strikes Back" aswell, but only slightly aged to reflect the time frame of the older movies?

That would be really awkward.

I can't see them touching Empire's Yoda. It would be a huge insult to Frank Oz if they did. If they did that they may as well start re-making the films. I didn't notice until recently that CGI Yoda makes an appearance at the end of Menace in the Judi council chambers.

Universal did the same thing with Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski and he's only partially a puppet....

I love CGI and all that jazz but puppets just feel real to me.

I agree. I really hope that Fox has left "Empire Yoda" alone.

Also, just found this, apparently showing the CGI Yoda in Menace. Needless to say, I prefer Puppet Yoda. I'm guessing that this is what will be used in the blu-ray format of the movie, but I'm not sure since this clip is from last year, and originally from the "Revenge Of The Sith" DVD.

Yeah I posted that a while ago. Was aware of it ever since I saw it, as you say on the ROTS dvd. And just for consistency sake it will be good to have digital Yoda in TPM, so all the prequels match up. So it does appear that those who sold their dvds (muggins here ) should have kept them if they wanted every special feature on Star wars. Shame they couldn't have taken a lesson from the Alien Anthology set, now Mr Lauzirika knows how to treat the fans. I'll still be buying it eventually though.

It's just that puppet Yoda in TPM was horrible IMO, he looked horrible, and seemed like he could barely move or anything. The OT Yoda was good and should be left alone.

The racks in HMV stores are filled with the empty cases of Star Wars and coming soon stickers. I hope the entire series looks and sounds excellent on Blu-ray.

Great pictures, but i am truly disappointed in the special features! It doesn't really sound like all that much... I hoped there were going to be more to the bonus discs than Deleted Scenes, Interviews and ever so exciting "Prop turnarounds" and "Matte paintings"... What about putting some stuff from the DVD's on there? This is the third or forth time i say it but those had great behind the scenes stuff!

I guess we got spoiled by the Alien Anthology set, huh? Now that thing was loaded!

If you look over at Bonus Disc 3, it clearly shows documentaries and other stuff.

But a lot of the bonus features from the 2004 original trilogy set, and the 2-disc DVD sets of Episodes 1, 2, and 3 have not been lincluded, which is a damn shame as there is a lot of quality bonus features on those DVDs.

Well, yeah, but I guess we can't have everything. It'd be great if we could.
