That's my stance too.

(From what I've read) too many problems with this release to warrant a £50 pricetag.

Yes. Bring on the January 2013 SALES! The quicker I buy this bloody thing the quicker George Lucas will announce the original theatrical cuts release dates. That's just how my luck rolls, so with each passing day I'm depriving (with a little help from the universe) everyone from having the OOT in HD.

Which seems rather mean of me....

I wouldn't have expected folks, who specifically want unaltered versions of the original films, to actually want or like episodes 1-3.

You're right, it should be a 4, I noticed your last question was not answered.

Well I had moaned about the quality and the package as a whole, including artwork, before (see a few pages back)

For me I had expect great things and I guess over imagined the possibilities of what to expect. I was massively disappointed and have not bought this set, even with the £35 option on Best Buy.

I started to warm to this, via a few replies sticking up for this set.

Since then a friend who is a massive SW fan took the day off work and watch all in one sitting. He has advised, knowing I have an up scaling DVD player and a pretty good system all in all, to stick to the DVDs. He has put his set on eBay.

He said the PQ was poor when compared to other Blu Ray of films from that era, considering the amount of money SW must have and the fan base they know will purchase. The tinkering was laughable and ruined his memories of certain scenes.

I have never understood why this set never had a release option of a tin, or a big package deal like Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and many, many other movies. Even Tinler Taylor etc will have about 3 options.

I’m glad I didn’t spend £70 on preorder and I’m not at all gutted I didn’t bother with £35 deal at BestBuy.

This release is just far to disappointing for me to bother with. I’ll wait for Luca$ to release a big box/tin with loads of goodies and both versions of the OT included. It’ll happen, he cannot go a year or two without bleeding the fans some more.

We established a few pages back that you were making things up about the PQ in order to justify your issues with the lack of a tin. Anyone who claims this is comparable to an upscaled DVD is talking rubbish. You can't seem to get over the fact that Fox didn't put this out in a tacky tin full of memorabilia!

You may have.

I have seen quite a few who agree with me.

I also did say to refer back to previous comments. I haven’t made anything up ? Do you think you know me ??

Anyway, the set is poor for fans who expected more from such a rich source, for the ££££’s they were/are asking.

I think forums are there for people to air the opinions – Just as you are doing.

You think this set is the dogs B’s and couldn’t have wished for anything more or anything better than what has been released. In your eyes this is the pinnacle of Star Wars releases and we should never expect anything better than this. They have reached the top !!!

Good for you, I’m glad for you.

Your mate is a prat then if he told you that, what's he watching it on ? a 20" tv with stereo sound ?

Yeah, the constant tinkering of the movies is stupid, but it's Lucas, just something everyone will have to get used to.

Is He ?

I asked about what he watched it on, He watched it on Sony KDL46EX723BU - No idea if that is good. My TV is panasonic txp50u30b

I don't recall saying there was an issue with the SQ ?

Anyway, he knew I was thinking of buying this and wasn't sure. He was being as honest as he could. He couldn't tell me to go and spend £50 and know that I was getting a tip top set of Blu's. He offered to lend me the box, saying the extras are good etc. I wasn't that fussed if they are not great.

I have seen a good few movies on BR with less budget and less money chucked at them to upgrade from DVD to Blu, from around that era.

Blade Runner, Alien, Nightmare on Elm St. A number of low budget 80's horror released via Arrow. They all blew me away and I could see such an improvement, almost like the improvement from VHS to DVD.

My mate said SW is not going to do that...

I can confirm that SW on Blu looks marginally better than an upscaled dvd, you are better off waiting for a better edition and sticking to your dvd versions. The hype about this box set is way way over the top but it does not surprise me, I expected the hyperbole.

Thanks. I appreciate your honesty. I guess when someone spends £70 on a set its difficult to admit its not perfect. And from the $$$Ranch it should be.

I also miss that Yellow Star Wars text on a black background... fingers crossed.
