I can't quite remember, but I think The Last Jedi's 4K release drops Dolby Vision, but I might be misremembering that. |

The rest are identical to the previous releases AFAIK. Pity really, it'd be nice if someone could re-do Solo to make it less murky. |

I redid the comparisons a second time and got the same results (both discs used the same settings with my PC). At the moment I'm inclined to believe its an issue my end. I'll take some captures with VirtualDub to make sure. Update: Fixed. There was something wrong with my software player. I used VirtualDub for the third batch. sorry Im going to continue being annoying but the Disney version looks the worst of the three colour wise. Let's take the brown pencil put an entire shade of brown over every frame.
I can only think this was all done, like I mentioned on SW to even the colour saturation or something. Im having a hard time believing the original projected film looks so brownish, pick a colour in the rainbow but it has to be a shade of brown. ![]() |

I haven't spent a great deal of time with these yet, but the main thing that I noticed is the filtering, it's not all the time, but it certainly stands out. I haven't really got thoughts about the grading yet, the old ones were certainly pumped. |

I never had much of a problem with Lowry's 2004 masters other than they were showing their age and could always have been improved. And these 2012 masters are for the most part an improvement. It's definitely more muted though, and I can see why some people might find it jarring in direct comparisons.

They also sent me 50 spare slip covers as a gesture of good faith. I didn’t have anywhere to store them though so just burned them.

A lot of the original film elements were recomposited for this restoration, such as the starfields and some of the ships I believe. It wasn’t just a straight up scan of the ‘97 special edition with new grading, then adding all the newer DVD/Blu-ray changes to it. |

They even 'uncorrected' a few corrections that were present on the 2004/2011 editions, like the Y-Wing that disappears a few frames early when it flies through the bottom of frame during the Death Star assault in the first film - though I doubt that omission was in any way intentional, it prolly just got missed. I'm disappointed that they didn't redo all the wipes digitally when they had the chance though. They were redone as opticals by Pacific title for the 1997 editions so while they don't lose as much quality as they would have otherwise done (being a 20 year old optical vs a 40 year old one) the problem is that the people doing the 4K transfers have hammered those shots with DNR. Not that the entire transfers aren't one big DNR adventure because they are, but they hit the opticals even harder and as SO many shots in Empire wipe from one to another then big chunks of the film are these horribly 'grain managed' opticals. |
