Freezing my butt off at work today. I swear they turned the freezers up last night so the blowers are running at full speed today making it feel colder than usual. Sorry this kind of crap isn't worth the extra $3 "hazard pay" to me. Takes 5x as much energy to keep warm then by the end of a 10hr work day I'm well spent. Yeah it may Be time for a career change, if that means I have to give up my 3 day weekends than so be it. A local garage is looking for a full time mechabic so I think I may look into that, thing is I never completed my training so even though I have over 15yrs experience as a service tech and some classroom instruction time, I may not be qualified without that certificate.

talk to the owner/manager of the garage and ask about compensation. some places will pay (or help pay) for classes if it means you getting certified in your field.

Yeah that won't happen here as it's a small town shop. The owner is a dear friend of mine and knows how experienced i am and probably couldn't care less about a piece of paper from a big school, unfortunately some customers insist the person working on their car is properly licensed. That's understandable in my eyes though, since I wouldn't want Joe Schmo working on my vehicles either.

ah, ok. and i can understand about the customer's views. but, also, in a small town most probably wouldn't care as long as the person doing the work knows what they're doing.

like the garage, here. they've been in business as long as i can remember (longer than i've been driving) and know their stuff. the guys that run it and work in it have been doing this their whole lives. and i trust them when they tell me what they think the problem is. they don't over-charge and don't do any work without your consent.
