Listening to a radio station I recently discovered using my new Crosley vinyl player. It's picking up stations from a county over and this station is amazing. It plays old school music I rarely hear on the radio, if ever. It's the perfect station to relax to.

Got called into work tomorrow so I'm spending the day with my daughter, we've been catching up on season two of FULLER HOUSE this morning. She just asked if she could help me work on my mom's car this afternoon. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing this parenting thing right, girls aren't supposed to be into cars are they?

You would hope girls are into cars, everyone should be into cars.

What one do you have and how do you like it? I have been wanting to buy myself a record player for a while now.

What does yours look like? This was my starter.

It worked decent enough as a starter player for me I've now retired it and I'm using this now.

This thing is from the late 70's and works like a damn champ. I'm actually thinking of buying a spare needle for it to have on the side because I like it so much and want to use it for a long time.

Not the greatest in the world, but for an hour or two at night it's got pretty solid sound and so far has played every cd/record/tape I've thrown at it. The radio is throwback (you have to manual tune it) and comes with a two foot antenna cord that picks up boat loads of stations.

I'm super pleased at the price point. The case is nice too. I have it sitting on my left side nightstand and it fits in nicely with the decor.

See my other post above.

My parents have their original speakers/players, but I wanted something for my room to listen to some records at night. I may upgrade to a higher end stand alone once this one gives out, but for now I'm pleased with what I have.

Thanks. I have been looking at ones similar to that. I wanted to get something that was all in one, but with having Pandora I might just look into getting a turntable only.

I've seen that one in store before. The retro look is awesome. I almost got that as my starter player myself.

I haven't used one yet, but I read stellar things about Audio Technica as a starter turntable. Had I not gotten the Callaro from my dad i would've picked up one of these.

Audio Technica AT-LP60
Audio-Technica AT-LP120

The AT-LP60 can be had for under $100 and the AT-LP120 can be had for just under $200 during a sale.

The big difference is one is the cheaper one is belt driven and the other isn't. The belt occasionally needs a cleaning and can break.

It's a great looking starter. If it works it works. My main problem with my Crosley was it didn't have a weight adjustment on the tone arm. If a record had a slight warp it would have issues playing it. It also didn't handle a shake in the floor well. My current one is on a base that will move according the the shake in the floor so it won't jump a groove.

Thanks. I will keep an eye out for a sale on the AT-LP120. It's too bad it doesn't look like they make one without the USB, because that would save me some money.

You can connect an iPod/iPhone to it for speakers too. I have plugged my iPhone in (6S Plus..still got my headphone jack!) and it works great for my Apple Music if I don't want to get out my JBL or BOSE speakers. Plus, I just really like the old style light and stuff it emits. It's just got a classic cool vibe to it.

I have mine sitting on a solid wood stand and haven't experienced any skipping or whatnot that isn't related to the age/wear of the record itself.

Yours looks more sturdy than mine was. Mine was a portable one so even on a sturdy area it wasn't the best. Between the skips and fact it couldn't play something that was even a tiny warped led me to ditch it. I bought a brand new Kelly Clarkson record that sounded terrible on side B on the portable Crosley, but sounds amazing on my current player.

Oh, it's sturdy. It's around 15 lbs or so, pretty solid. I've only had two albums skip on me - but they were used half priced $1.99 vinyls that have seen a lot of mileage. I mostly wanted it for the sleeve and cover art so I'm not salty over it. All my new records have played perfectly. I've spun the GOTG soundtrack a couple of times today, soooo wonderful getting in my little nostalgia bubble.

Outside of that type of stuff, I know exactly jack about maintenance of the arm/needle and cleaning discs. I got it on my to-do list of stuff I should read up on.

I completely forgot about needing speakers. I guess a USB connection would be good to have, especially if I ever buy a home theater system.
