Sitting at the bar drowning my sorrows in some shitty Bud Light and a couple fireball shots.
My life's a mess right now, just as I thought everything was going smooth shit just hits the fan. Once my goddaughter's mother moves back into the states she's taking the kid nearly 3000 miles from me and when I mentioned to my fiancee about relocating so I can still be in the kid's life, my fiancee tells me it's a stupid idea that I should just move on and that she's not interested in moving out of NY. I don't have much family left, nothing really tying me down to staying here other than my fiancee, whom I love. Maybe she's right, maybe I should move on - but after we found out we can't have kids of our own I feel as if this is the best my life is ever gonna get. I made a promise to my best friend who named me godfather of his daughter to watch over her, which I've done for the past 9 years..how am I supposed to continue doing this when she's clear across the f**king country!?! FML!

whenever i hear people say something like "move on", regarding something like this, it just makes me think that they have never known love like when someone loves their kid. and i realize that the kid isn't yours, but you've raised her for 9 years. you're the closest thing she's had to a father for 9 years.

move on? i'm sorry (not really), but i'd have to be a total ass and, the next time someone in her life moves or passes away, i'd tell her to just "move on".

you're feeling bad because someone who is very close to you is moving away and you'll miss them. it's perfectly normal to feel this way. it's like a gut shot.

Have you legally taken care of her for 9 years? In that time, has the mother been in the child's life at all? If not, maybe you should consider legal action.

Up in the middle of the night thanks to the Mrs and the dog. Fell asleep hard after we wrapped up dinner. Was sleeping pretty good until the boy decided to start being an ass getting ready to go to bed. What pissed me off more than that was that it took me yelling to get her to simmer his ass down.

She thinks I'm a hard ass when it comes to him, but this is one of the reasons why I'm a hard ass with him. Still managed to fall back to sleep until the dog needed to go out. Now I'm trying to work out if I can go back to sleep. Going to drop my truck off at the shop, then take the family to see Infinity Wars and a late lunch.

Was in the bathroom when I spotted a spider in the mirror on the door behind me.

It stopped. Then turned around and crawled to the other side of the door where I couldn't see it.

I wasn't fast enough to smack the dude as it crawled into the towel hanging on the door rack.

I stupidly thought of knocking over the door rack in hopes of it crushing the spider.

Instead, it brought down the picture hanging on the wall.

Now I'm picking up pieces of glass while on alert for the spider that got away....

Well I'm meeting with a lawyer on Thursday to see what my options are. I didn't really want to fight for custody, as I really do support the reunion of my goddaughter and her mother(plus I'm certain once a biological parent comes back in a child's life my parental rights are pretty much terminal), but I also believe she deserves a father-figure in her life especially one who has been in her life since birth. As for my fiancee and I, we'll make it through this, I've been thinking a lot about the situation and understand her stand on it. She's literally just starting her career here and uprooting her wouldn't be fair.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck, whatever the outcome may be. You're torn between two very good, reasonable ideals and honestly, you should be commended for looking at it from all sides with a reasonable lens. Most wouldn't and this shows the kind of person you are, which seems to be a loving and caring individual. If only all children were so lucky.

I'm sure the fact that you've been in the child's life for nine years, and the biological mother has not, carries some weigh. Was her mother providing any kind of financial support? When the mother was in the military, do you know if the mother was collecting BAH at the with dependent rate?

Good luck Mike16. I have my opinions on things, but hope it all works out in the child's best interests. One thing I will say is you need to be there for at least the initial transition. Because it isn't going to be easy for her to adjust regardless of her relationship to her mother. Sitting here waiting on the caffeine to kick in on my coffee to decide my next move. We went and watched Infinity War today.

So I didn't want to be constantly getting up to go to the bathroom during the movie and skipped anything to drink (Especially with caffeine). Had a pounding headache by the time we finally got home. Ended up dropping the truck off early to the shop, grabbing dinner and then lying down. And now I'm awake. I guess I'll get to sorting more of my stuff to pack up while I have Mr Baseball on in the background.
