Reading my philosophy textbook, about to head to my nephew's basketball game and then Saturday night work. Typed up a letter for my boss to request a schedule change so I can attend Thursday classes in the spring.

Sitting here drinking some water, listening and debating on my next move. Red Redemption 1, movie or a nap? Pretty sure it is going to be a nap. Because The Mrs just started a load of laundry and is probably going to do schoolwork with The Boy. Was hoping she’d be done with that last one while I was going through the forum.

Oh boy did I have a bit of a scare!

I was on the Forum and my Computer Screen went all weird for a moment than it went to black!

Powering down and back up again did nothing ( only a black screen ) I than went ahead and
laid the PC on it’s side and removed the side panel, I blew out any particulates that had gotten in over the years.
I basically unplugged/re-plugged in all connectors inside the Computer than tried a power up,
at first all it than did was go to the screen with the countdown clock that’s asks if you want to “go to safe mode” or power up Windows Normally”, etc…
But I couldn’t click “enter” with the keyboard and have it go right to Windows Power up, and when it went to 0 it didn’t do anything ether.

I powered on and off a few times and the last time it did go to Widows after the clock hit 0 ( keyboard still didn’t work )
it went to the normal Windows screen, I was able to log onto the Net, keyboard still didn’t work, so I went ahead and unplugged/re-plugged in
all exterior connectors and that fixed that issue.

So I got it back up and running, ( whole process took about ½ hr ) still don’t know what the root cause was.
I’m just happy it’s running again!

i've been through similar issues with an old computer some years ago.

i'd suggest dumping all your files to an external drive, then reinstalling windows (if you have the install disc for it)..

It did it again, but this time I was able to get it back up and running faster this time!

After I did a "Live Update" with Norton, and it loaded over 101mbs, that's an abnormally large Update. ( almost a complete program reload )

And I had to redo the "pinned" shortcut for "Norton Security", and there was an adicional patch to load.

I wonder if this might all be part of the same issuse??
I'll see if it ( the problem ) happenes again..

I had to buy Windows 7 for Dummies to do it the first time....

About ten years ago my drive went bye bye, I bought another just like it and after reinstalling everything I realized the original
one was still under a replacement warranty.
So I do indeed have a ( 10yr old ) New Drive still in the box, I put it on a shelf in my Computer Desk.

Back than I had to reinstall everything, and start from scratch, I did have some Back Up stuff at the Norton site...
But I do not know how to transfer stuff to a 2nd Drive, guess I'll have to learn

transferring most files to another hard drive is pretty easy. it should just be drag/drop or copy/paste.

also, might wanna buy a 1tb (or larger if needed) external hdd for backups. that way, with an external, it's never online and won't get any viruses or other programs slowing it down. it should just be for backup files (music, movies, videos, pics, etc.) and you can actually get a 3tb external drive for less than $100.

Why do I do this to myself? Ugh. Ended up working a full day yesterday, and now I'm at job1 for overtime - at least 10 hours. Oh and my Girl just sent me a text asking if I could make my infamous caramel apple pie tonight , I'm not even sure if I have all the ingredients needed but I couldn't say no....

Still doing it, but it's acting more like a power supply issuse ( acting like, may not be ).

I turn off the power strip that the computer and monitor are plugged into after I log off the computer,
and it takes up to a minute for the power light on the computer to go out ( internal relays and transformer powering down?? )

But this morning ( just like yesterday ) I'll turn on the power strip and the monitor and the Computer get power. ( than I hit the "ON" Button in front )
But the computer doesn't go through its system power up to Windows, and the monitor stays blank after turning on.

I turn the power strip off, and the "green light" on the back of the Computer goes right out right away instead of taking the full minute to go off like normal.

I turn the strip on and off a couple of times, waiting each time to see if it powers up completely to Windows.

And after a few times it does ...

Read your post last night. At first I thought it said UFC. Now, I'm standing in line at customer service at Target and this guy is wearing a UCF Knkghts sweatshirt. Don't keep up with college too much so had never even heard of the school until you mentioned it and now for the first time ever, I see a guy wearing their sweatshirt.

Not the "On/Off" button ( which does light when On ), I'm talking about the indicator that's right next to where
the power cord plugs into the back of the Computer ( in my case anyway ).
( It normally stays on till all the power goes out of the transformer/capacitors of the power system )

Oh yes, I am shutting the computer down before turning off the power strip it's connected to.
