I hadn't heard that, I hope that's not true. It's like we're witnessing the burning of the Library at Alexandria. This is a monumental historical moment. Horrific. As others have said, I hope they were able to save the artwork, statues, and stained glass windows inside.

Well, over the centuries Notre Dame has been rebuilt many times. The spire was built in 1840. It's difficult to watch, but I do think they will rebuild and salvage what they can.

This is 1847.



The latest news is they might be able to save one of the towers.

Do you know which parts remained (before today's fire) from when it was originally built in the 1100s?
I agree, I do think they will rebuild. Perhaps it will be a unifying project for the country. Even if/when they rebuild, though, the priceless works of art inside can't be replaced.

Much of the artwork and statues was removed prior to the fire.

I don't know enough about the history to say, but I know work has been done off and on over the centuries.

They're now saying they've been able to save the towers with the huge bells.

Just echoing with the news that the huge Belfry towers are not going to collapse & will remain standing according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

That's a great relief to hear that they will remain standing after hoardes of people were witnessing tonight's horrific events in Paris.

Macron is also launching an international funding campaign to get the cathedral rebuilt.

with fasting...coffee helps. it serves 2 purposes, actually. it's a diuretic (of sorts) as well as a hunger inhibitor. sometimes i'll drink coffee if i'm getting a bit hungry and really don't wanna fix anything to eat.

Do you have any shrubs that need trimming? I always hated using the trimmer though these days I don't have much use for one. I wish we just let nature takes it's course sometimes
