i'm extremely lucky in that my truck and house are both paid for. and i only have 3 bills, currently. but i swear if the cost of groceries doesn't stop going up, i may have to stop eating. i don't know what that'll do to me, but i can't imagine it'd be good.

in all seriousness, i do wish the both of you luck. buying a house and even moving into a new/better apartment are big things; so i hope you both get what you want in those regards.

No secret - About 4 years ago I started a mobile auto repair business on the side, I've built up a rather large client base and make good money doing it but unfortunately it's not steady income. Someday I'd love to acquire a shop of my own to do it full time, possibly still doing it mobile on the side, but right now its still a high risk I'm not willing to take right now. The Wife and I also decided to go into real estate last year, when she and her sister were having a hard time selling their mother's house, we decided to buy her sister out and fix it up to rent out. We also very recently bought a house 3 doors down from the house we live in, with plans to rent out someday.

Nice. I like your family's work ethic and hustle! You always seem to have 3+ things going on at once when I read this thread. And I love that you have quarterly "family business meetings". You've got things running like a well oiled machine at your house.

I've been busy. Of course I have my normal 40 hour M-F bank job, then Uber/Lyft/DoorDash on the weekends. Plus some lawn cutting on the side I do for a few people. Now someone I just met recently wants me to clean up their commercial property.

I'm running for city council - which Election Day is now less than 30 days out. So it's crunch time. I've been attending various meetings - fire department, council meeting, zoning meeting, etc. I mailed out 79 letters today to random people in town, and I have 250 postcards I created with letters attached to those to be hand-delivered. And then a whole stack of just letters to also hand out when I have time and weather cooperates.

got a letter in the mail, today. it's about joining nextdoor.com for our neighborhood. it gives the website and code to use to join for our neighborhood. i was just about to finish signing up (curiosity), when i thought, "well, maybe some research first to make sure this is legit (nextdoor.com, not the letter/info). after a quick search....notgonnahappen.

i found a lot of:
people use it to talk shit about other neighbors
my neighbor accused me of stealing his pet when i put an ad about finding a lost pet
strange cars/people in neighborhood
strange animals in neighborhood
my neighbor did this
my neighbor did that
blah, blah, blah

if i wanted all that crap, i'd join facebook/twitter or go back to high school.

yeah, sure, knowing about strange cars/people in your neighborhood is a good thing. but my direct neighbors (right next door, other side of him, people across the street) are all retired. they keep a pretty close watch on things and keep me informed of anything weird/strange that might be happening. it's sort of like an unadvertised neighborhood watch, lol.....and i like it.

so i won't be joining nextdoor. com, for now. really don't see the appeal of it right now.
