That's a damn long hospital stay! I'm glad that you are finally doing better.

I was actually only in for 2 weeks and have been home recovering ever since. I didn't word it in a good way so it looked like I have been in since then Sorry. But 2 weeks was still an experience I do not wish to have again.

Two weeks is still an awfully long hospital stay. 10 days is my longest... so far...and that felt like an eternity. Happy that you are on the mend.

I was just wondering aloud why folks who "love" places like CA and NY end up moving here in the south permanently. If one loves where they're living so much, it seems odd to just move from there. Even family wouldn't stand in the way. Not always anyway. My dad's family is from here (Nashville), but all but 2 moved away from here for long periods of time. Not always by choice, but sometimes. Anyway, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

Getting another cup of coffee and partaking in a e-seminar about saving money and "investing in yourself" provided by the VA. I'm learning just how f**king reckless I've been with my money, apparently instead of saving in a HYSA all these years I should've created a Roth IRA, enrolled in a HSA instead of a HRA, and bought a house instead of renting all these years. I'm not even going to touch base on how I screwed up my daughter's college savings account. Oh well, I'm sure my daughter isn't expecting any kind of financial aid help from me since I haven't exactly been a model dad to her (I still have 7 years to play catch up I guess?), but to be fair I don't expect to live past 40 any way.

The cost of living in CA and NY can be astronomical and that alone can cause people to move from a place that they otherwise love.

Perhaps it was the delivery or the tone, but it def did come off as "something" to me, but all good.

As for the moving thing, I had just left college, my parents were moving down to GA to be with my sister and the soon-to-be grand kids and as much as I did/do love NY, I was looking for a change at the time. Not to mention, it was FAR cheaper to live in GA than in NY at that time (and still is although GA has gotten ridiculous as of late) and there was no way I could have made it work up there on my own at that young age.

How long have you been in Ga for Rage? Besides the three or four years that I lived in Washington State with my mom and stepdad, I had always lived in California.

My first trip back East was probably in 91 or 92 for a school trip to D.C. and the surrounding areas. '96 was a trip my mom and I did that included DC, Va and even Gettysburg. Oh yeah, and NC with a stop in Mt. Airy which is the inspiration for Andy Griffith's Mayberry. '

97 was a big circle beginning and ending in Atlanta, which we saw very little of. We hit Chattanooga, Nashville with a couple/few nights at the Opryland Hotel, Pigeon Forge, Mt. Airy again, Richmond, Va, Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach and some other places. It was a great trip. That was a short time after I graduated high school and before I left for Boot Camp.

I spent about six months in Pensacola for A school while in the Marines. All of the trips back East were fantastic and we saw some beautiful areas. Oh yeah, while Pensacola was in 98, Boston and Gettysburg were in 99. I could see myself moving back East and down South and being happy. Living real close to mom and dad in Brunswick would be cool. Living in Greenville, SC, where mom really wants me to move, would be cool. I might finally be ready to move back East and be closer to mom but these mountains out here have quite a grip on me. Not being able to go up to Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada just about any time I want would be quite hard for me. Hard to believe it took me over 25 years to get back up to Yosemite and now that I've rediscovered it, I don't want to let it go.

Since 1996, I came down right before the Olympics and then a co-worker invited me to Athens for the semi-final soccer match between Nigeria and Argentina, it was WILD.

This is certainly true. Though, it's starting to get where just about anywhere is astronomical to live. Here in Nashville, it's gotten outrageous. The housing cost has more than quadrupled in the last 10-20 years or so. And not just from inflation and the economy. A lot of people migrating from CA, for example, has driven the prices up. And ruined the charm of this city some would say. Not to say they are the SOLE reason for a lot of this. But the blame is being pointed in their direction. It's kind of a sore subject around here. If you get a chance, I highly recommend checking out a documentary called The Day The Music Stopped. it's a great look at the changes in Nashville over the last few years and the turmoil surrounding a stoic music venue.

I totally can see that. My tone and delivery were not exactly the most pleasant. I do apologize. At least you ended up moving to a nice area. If I were going to move outside my state, it would probably be GA. Texas is up there, but I'm not sure I want to live in Dallas anymore. I could certainly see Athens being a great alternative. I love that little town.

No need to apologize, man...we're good, but thank you.

I could never do Texas, woof...I have a bunch of coworkers there around the Plano/Richardson/Dallas area and they not only deal with absolutely brutal weather, but their electrical grid is dogsh*t thanks to their representative.
