Sent from my Galaxy S3 using carrier pigeons.

watching American idol - and being amazed how singers and some of the judges do not know beatles songs like 'let it be' ...

what kind of vacuum have they lived in ?

it's part of all-round education ...

edit : do they teach anything out of America in ... America ? here in Finland one must study 2 foreign languages and the history of the world (so one knows what has happened and is going on in the world globally, like in politics ) ... and in music class things like ... unknown band like the beatles ... and this is in secondary school, not in university ... and whole lot more !

thanks for the answer.

do not want to start a fight or anything - truly.

but wondering ...

Randyman94 - how do you feel about that, is it ok to only learn your own history, leaving aside the rest of the world ?

It's all good.

I feel it's important to learn about other cultures and their histories. By doing so, it can enhance a person's understanding of their own history. My 9th grade history teacher always said that history repeated itself. So if a person studies another nation's history, they can find patterns and other things that have affected their own nation's history.

Plus, our history gets boring the more times you hear about it. You have no idea how many times I've had to learn hear about the Civil War. Now all I hear is "blah blah blah."

I'd much rather learn European History than anything else.

nice hear that.

but - your Civil War is pretty interesting too.

IMO history of own country has to be tough + the other nations.

that is the way one knows what's going on in the world - globally - and might predict what is going to happen.

I absolutely hate that the US does not require people to learn a second language. I believe we're the only first-world country that doesn't make it mandatory. As for history, I took British history in University but it was so horribly taught.

Right now I'm listening to Pink Floyd and writing.

I'm sorry to say it but the general consensus seem's to be that American's really don't care what happen's outside their own Country.

I think that's a misconception. Maybe that was true 20 years ago and further back, but not today. The playing field in terms of innovation, progress, growth and a multi-national presence has equalized quite a bit, and the U.S. is much more concerned about what happens outside their borders than ever before.
