My parents get paid when they use their days off. They also get paid when they're ill and can't go to work. I think that's normal?

Outside of the US, it is. Inside the US, it depends on your job. If you work at a big company, you're usually fine. If you work at the grocery store, it may depend on how nice they are. If you work at McDonald's, you likely only get paid leave if you're in upper management for an individual store or corporate.

the company dictates how many sick days off per year an employee may have.. if any.

Yea I read about that last night. So sad to read things like that... No info yet on whether the schedule will be affected with the next date coming up being June 22. I too would not fault him at all if he decides to cancel. Family is always first
