HDR10+ does need HDMI 2.1 feature Transport of ST 2094 dynamic metadata.
The HDMI 2.1 feature eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) supporting Dolby Atmos or DTS:X will be enabled on 2017 Marantz AVR via a future firmware upgrade. http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pa...oductId=SR6012 According to Jeff Park, Technical Director of HDMI LA, a HDMI 2.0b => HDMI 2.1 firmware upgrade is possible if the HDMI chipset was designed to be upgradable. https://cepro.ehmedia.co/webinar-confirmation11710499 ![]() http://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-hi...l#post54128881 |

Unlike with DV, HDR10+ has a large studio that has been heavily involved in its development, its marketing, and now its licensing. I wouldn't be surprised if Fox uses the format on a large portion of its discs, since it would be in their best interest to do so. Still, I stick by my prediction, that these dynamic HDR formats will account for a very small percentage of the overall number of UHD discs. |

A year and a half since then, and we've had probably well more than 200 total UHD discs released, with less than 10 being DV, and only a handful more announced for release. Doesn't seem like much, and it doesn't seem to speeding up any time soon. The encoding issues haven't helped.

As far as I understand, April 2016 was the very beginning (i.e. announcement) of the development of the Dolby Vision authoring tools; and the first UHD Blu-ray discs, Despicable Me, were coming in June 2017.

How would you know this? Official specs say 2.0b: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one-x (click on show specs + sign)
But I agree they can probably upgrade the port to support HDR10+ |

![]() Truth? LOL We have multiple titles either in imminent release or scheduled. Red, Red 2, Warm Bodies, Cabin In The Woods, Transformers: The Last Knight, etc. all in one month's time. Atmos took a while to get going and now it's everywhere. |

I want DV to succeed, and show it's full capabilities. Having a format war with HDR10+ will only serve to slow down acceptance by the general public of 4k consumers and a smooth transition in a few years to 12-bit devices. And having studios split up over DV and 10+ only deepens the format war aspects of this pending cluster... Ps Also support HLG for broadcasting, sports first and then who knows? |

So I bought my first 4K set-up awhile back and honestly while the PQ is really very good, it has not been as good as some 4K that I have seen at Best Buy or Target. The TV is this Hisense 55" which is ~4' away in my bedroom. And the 4K player is a Philips BDP7501.
When I bought these I honestly did almost no research but so far I have not been too impressed with its 4K performance, again the PQ is really nice but its nothing like stuff I have seen on a 4K LCD I saw at Target and the LG Oled I saw at Best Buy. Well today I guess I figured out why, it does not have High Dynamic Range (HDR), though I gotta admit I looked thru its specs before I bought it and I think (under the specs at BB)> ... "High Dynamic Range (HDR) No" would have caught by eye so I think this was added after my purchase. Oh well, after using the TV a bit, it is still quite nice but its not what I was hoping for. At least its just a bedroom TV and after trading in an old laptop and selling my old 32" 1080p bedroom TV I only spend like ~$270. At least whenever I am ready to get rid of my PRO-151FD (Pioneer Elite 60" professionally calibrated plasma) I at least know what I now know. ....And honestly my plasma's replacement probably has to be an Oled so my wait might be awhile since I aint rich, thankfully though this is not a huge deal because my systems both do 1080p very nicely and I can live with that. .......Its just not pure eye candy like I have seen @ B.B. & Target. I agree Pete, but WHERE is the support that Warner promised way back at CES?. I have Cabin In The Woods to watch tonight and let's just hope and pray those damned black levels have been sorted. Having seen people experience this now with the LG UHD Deck as well as the Oppo, I am convinced that this is an encoding issue. As you say, The Last Knight is out soon and it will be interesting to see what encoder they use and the results yielded [emoji106] |
