to film aerial action of Top Gun: Maverick with, well, they’re on the list in the H’s - http://www.cinegearexpo.com/la-expo-exhibitor-list. To get a rough idea, a sample image (this sequence not in the movie and with another high rez HDR capable camera) of what it looks like while tracking a non-military jet, in this case over the GG bridge –

They are actually doing live in air shooting?
Thank God, I was worried when we lost Tony that is would be 99% CGI

Lets see, if I got this right. Colorist does a HDR grade, Dolby CMU creates dynamic metadata representing several pixel luminance values, hue, saturation, and brightness, etc. High nit consumer display doesn't tone map 1000 nit content, but use the metadata to match the original HDR grade.

ITP or ICtCp being absolute, can it reduce the need for metadata for color values?

It has a small amount of UHD SDR BT.709 content, no SDR BT.2020 content outside of the HLG version of the montage, which is included on the disc as SDR BT.2020. If your display has a manual HLG mode, then it is HLG.

Thanks for the kind reply, Stacey. Sorry to hear that SDR/BT2020 content is not included.
Would it be possible to create one using free tools such as x265 or ffmpeg, converting from either HDR/2020 or SDR/709?
Many thanks and best regards,

I primarily think of/involved with ICtCp as a color space that can be used with PQ or HLG

Oh yes, lots, that was indeed the implication of my post from yesterday, May 27! And in high rez, no less (for example, if you look closely at that sample image of the camera system on the nose of that L-39 Albatros tracking the commercial aircraft for another production, that was captured at 5.6K [could have gone higher])

And don’t forget contributions by the two wheeled vehicles and little known of crew support - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post15625628

It takes a village.

What specifically are you looking for in SDR 2020? We may build an add-on disc early next year, once Dolby 4.0 is available. This way we can ship a 4.0 montage along with some other cool versions. (HDR Analyzer version - Not sure how long this link will last, we would capture the output of the HDR Analyzer and encode as running video. FYI, the video in this clip is from the montage. It is Quantum Dot that Nanosys made for us. They have made red and green before, but the other two were new.)

You mean the shot below? I could be wrong but the overlay is indicating it was shot in '7K HD' and the 5600K is referring to the colour temperature, no? From the nomenclature visible, like the HDRX at the bottom and the 6:1 compression ratio, one assumes that's from a RED, one of the 8K VistaVision variants?

I wish there was a film based comparison between the two color spaces. Streaming would be the only means currently, maybe through Netflix content.

you’re not wrong, thanks for the correction
i was multi-tasking, at the same time online (fighting with my insurance company over a claim processed on 5/6 where they hadn’t applied my 80/20 deductible and were saying I owed 100% on my statement of benefits for a BIG BILL….an MRI scan with contrast)
yes, to all of the above and from a RED (R3D file)

meanwhile….unless something else comes up in terms of reshoots, the filming is nearly wrapped , much of what is said here, posted today, page 4 and on –https://www.ht399.org/app/uploads/20...o.21-REV.2.pdf has already been described beforehand on this thread before the paparazzi and social media found out about it, including tidbits like this…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post16360704

but it’s ^ a nice overview for those who haven’t keep up with my postings and exclusive pictures since last June.

I think the closest the consumer has come to that is if he attended the SMPTE tech conference the year before last and saw the Grass Valley camera running in ICtCp mode vs. YCbCr mode aimed at some LEGOs.

It is either Helium or Monstro. Could be Dragon, if it was a DXL.

Here is a single frame 16-bit TIFF from the montage. https://ucd2b3979d059805ab8101b0a0e9...8sUw/file?dl=1

This is just using the default settings from the camera in SDR. No grading, which is why the space needle is a bit green. It was shot at 7680x4320 @ 23.98, 105mm Sigma Art Lens, 2:1 compression. (Time lapse).
