That's perfect for Mission: Impossible - Fallout, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Roma, The Irishman, ...

And for 4K UHD HDR Blu-rays, the new Filmmaker Mode offered by LG, Vizio and Panasonic TVs (maybe more TV manufacturers later ... it'll put pressure on Sony, Samsung, TCL...Hisense, Philips, Toshiba, Sharp ... ) from the UHD Alliance with Hollywood studios is a late blessing better than never.

Hey, if they can make that firmware update retroactive ...

a slow news month and it gives social media folks a foothold on which to retweet the initiative ad nausea
for the experienced videophile, it does seem rather déjŕ vu …..https://www.sony.com/electronics/master-series

If it does what it promises (specifics don’t seem nailed down yet) it will be a huge leap forward over IMAX Enhanced (pftt).

is there anyone here who has access to the additional performance and interface specs not listed - https://8kassociation.com/8k-associa...-consumer-tvs/

^ this seems rather low bar, (spatial resolution-centric)
no 120p frame rate option? given the fact that when one increases spatial resolution, detail suffers without a commensurate increase in temporal resolution

Don't jump the gun. Besides we have to wait 8 extra hours now on Sat. due to some super high tide, so we can leave the harbor and slip under the bridge.

Just glad we have many bright folks behind all aspects of this industry.

Several years ago DRMPEG spoke very highly of Stacey Spears in the Insiders section. I have never saw Ron (DRMPEG) mention his background but I bet he has a doctorate by the handle that he uses (DRMPEG here and DR1394 AVS).

I will always be grateful to Keith Jack of Sigma Designs for getting the BDA to include native 24 (23.976) fps in the specs.

you're welcome , but that didn’t take much effort on my part, for marketing peeps hashtag or retweet every dang phrase you can think of these days in their way to get the word out (most of the time for self-serving interests),

more difficult will be the ability to establish and deliver a timely recording of this more nuanced event - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...y#post16766724

in the long term, I’m looking to see if this AMPAS call out for “Professional desktop monitors with self-calibration” uncovers anything of merit - https://www.oscars.org/news/9-scient...stigation-2019

Keith’s retired (fully) now and probably leisurely kicking back somewhere.
I don’t know Ron E.’s formal education credentials; nevertheless, all us old timers here know/are appreciative of his engineering merit…..as well as for that matter Stacey and Kris.

b.t.w…. speaking of https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post14718188
I notice the Club is creeping up to the 7.5 million viewership mark, despite dormancy

That will probably be of benefit to the more budget minded folks and perhaps even drive down the prices of the more elite brands. Who knows.

Good food in a big boat...cruise ship. Too bad the bridge cannot be lifted ... next one they'll build it higher. ...And the boats too (cruise ships).

HDR ... let's see what's new on that waterfront ...

2006, the birth of the Blu-ray disc and Blu-ray player in North America.
13 years later and we now have 4K and HDR and elevated sounds.
We have been through 3D Blu-ray with a gigantic push from James Cameron's Avatar flick.
Now it has been pretty much abandoned.

The now is perfecting HDR, make it compatible with all components, and ... Filmmaker Mode coming up.

Dolby Vision? It's improving too, slowly but surely.

Actually we are already in the 8K era as 8K TVs are already available and there will be more of them and more affordable too as the years aged.

Streaming is surpassing physical too.

We left behind HD DVD, laser disc, tapes (VHS and Beta), 8mm films, carousels with slides, cameras with film pellicule, Kodak and Fuji paper photos, black and white silent films @ the theaters, Charleston music dance, African Blues, New Orleans Jazz, ... with happy memories and still living in many parts of the world...the music and films and the formats...cassettes, LPs, Mono, 78 rpm, 8-track tape deck car systems, cigarette lighters, Victrola phonographs, musical instruments they play five hundred plus years ago.

We have less newspapers and more Twitter members.
