Default Samsung 4K UHD Blu-ray Player UBD-K8500

The device will launch in Europe early next year, and the company also showed off new speakers and talked up a streaming gaming service.

Samsung talked up its first UHD Blu-ray player during an event Thursday at a press conference at the IFA electronics show here. The player is capable of providing four times the resolution and 64 times higher color expression compared to standard Blu-ray and can upscale content to provide UHD resolution for any disc. UHD streaming services are also available through the box, which features a curved design.

Samsung didn't specify any pricing or US availability. It said the device will launch in Europe early next year.

Early next year, that's a shame, anytime past Christmas and it will have to be a Christmas present for next year.

I wouldn't jump on first generation hardware anyway. So hopefully by next Christmas any issues will all be ironed out and there will be some cheaper played out.

Finally, some news, though I can barely stand to read this article, it's so badly written.

I'm hanging on for Oppo, they're bound to do two. I can wait. I think. I think I said this last time....and ended up being unfaithful via Sony, Samsung and Pioneer...

I'm afraid, the only reason I've been able to stop myself from buying a new TV is because I told myself what's the point if I don't have any physical content?

Now there will be I'm not sure I'll be able to hold off

But as you say, 2 HDMIs would be nice. I really don't want to have to upgrade my surround sound (even though it really could do with being upgraded ).

My head tells me to do this, but my heart says otherwise. Going to avoid this player like the plague if at all possible as my experience with Samsung Products into too great tbh.

Maybe look to Sony or Panasonic's offerings next year when this all kicks off and see what they are offering. Ideally, need a player with 2 HDMI Outputs so I can hopefully utilise those Object Based Soundtracks that should be a coming

Owning an Oppo BDP 103-D though will make everything else seem meh

Give me that build quality and UHD BD and I am there

Me neither but I've not bought any new kit since about 2011! I'm going new AV receiver this year (to upgrade my current 2007 model!) and hopefully a player towards the end of next year and see what the projector market looks like then. It all seems a bit vague at the moment.

This time, I'm not in a hurry. I'm quite happy with BD so wont see the need to upgrade quite as quickly, hopefully.

If your receiver cannot pass thru 4k HDMI 2.0 signals, you pop one to the receiver for audio and one to the TV

Having bought a first generation Samsung Blu-Ray player when they debuted, I would stay far away from Samsung first generation ultra high def player.

I am waiting for all this mess to get sorted out. Still too many questions IMHO about whether this will be a relevant format or not and all the specifications.

2 HDMI out debuted when 3D arrived.

So, if you go 4K with a pre-2015 AVR(or a 2014 Onkyo/Integra) you need 2 HDMI outputs.

Same reason as 3D with HDMI1.1/2/3 AVR.

Default samsung Model: BDH6500

odd question, I bought a new Blu-ray player today, it is a Samsung Model: BDH6500, has the 4k upscaling to go with my 4k tv, watched furious 7, outstanding picture quality, have a 75" Samsung 4k tv, here is the deal, remember the old vcr's that had a clock on the front? I'm the nerd that always set the clock, I seen cheaper models of players that have a clock why not this one? emailed Samsung no reply as of yet. is there not an app or a hack to make it have a clock? I have been through the menu and all and there is no clock setting on this model.

The selling point on these stand alones is the ability to run the BD-java scripts quickly and efficiently without lag from the controller and without any bugs.

The adoption rate won't pick up until gaming systems include the tech, or at least a version of the PS4/XBO that has a higher tier option to include it.

I will hold out for the PS4 option myself. At least I can use a blue tooth controller.

And, without HDMI x 2 its a non seller altogether for most.

if the PS5 is as crap a UHD blu-ray player as the PS4 is a blu-ray player, I'll still have a standalone.

I have a PS4 now, and I have a fairly cheap upscalling panny player that is light years better than the PS4.

Sony said it will out for 2018. Gamer are very disappointed on PS4 is old bluray player. Same on XBox One.
