PIP is turned off. Last evening I made many adjustments to both the receiver and the BD-30 and I could not get the TrueHD track with any settings change. I've been reading about this problem at AVSForum and it seems that this issue is somewhat common and with several types of receivers and players. Hopefully there will be a firmware update soon or some other solution.

Max, could you shed any more light on the Shoot Em Up optimized code speculation? I was wondering if it had been confirmed and if there were any other titles which would have this if it is indeed the case.

As always, thanks for your input, it's greatly appreciated.

I know that they are DUD exclusive, but they just launched a website dedicated to what they are doing at CES at http://www.nbcuatces.com/. If you're at the show I would encourage you to stop by and be one of the thousands of people that ask them when they are going to go blu. Interesting note about their web site: they mention Blu-ray being a notable product introduction back in 2003...oddly from the Uni camp it and the Nintendo back in '85 are the only two that show up in bold on the site.

Read the last bit, and it really sounds like something is going down! Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Is pretty interesting that they bolded BD.

Not an insider but here's my input here before we get too carried away on this...

Reading the article, the bold items are linked to the pictures next to them. It is curious though that Blu-ray's introduction is highlighted with no mention of HD-DVD (maybe it wasn't introduced at a CES event)

IMO I wouldn't read too much into it. The writer may have just copied his list of notable introductions from a CES source.

BTW, when I try to email to the email address at that Universal CES contact-us page, my emails bounce back as undeliverable (ces@nbcuni.com)

The bolds connect to the pics. But, still, a BD-R pic on the NBCU site?

Mmmh. I guess if we aren't talking about the same for #2, it should go like this:

One lady wants highlights and another new customer just walked in and wants a color change.

Translation #2 would be quite groundbreaking imho.
WOW.... !

It's entirely possible. I did some checking, and HD-DVD wasn't at CES 2003 at all, except as an adjective (I found an article referring to "Sony's Blu-ray HD-DVD player"), and HD-DVD had a very low-key showing at CES 2004, so nothing you could call a decent debut, but I wonder how they're defining it. It's still interesting that a) blu-ray gets a picture and HD-DVD doesn't even get mentioned, and b) the quote at the end of that article "I wonder what announcement will be the talk of the show this year..."

If they really wanted to they could count CES 2004 as HD-DVD's "debut".

Insiders: Any chance we will hear some news leak(tonight or over the weekend) before the show starts on Monday? And not just talking about Warner.

What are you talking about? I've never heard of news leaking out before planned...

The final nail in the HD-DVD coffin! From the Digital Bits.

In other news today, our industry sources are telling us that for the 52nd week in a row, Blu-ray Disc software has outsold HD-DVD software. For the last week of 2007, the margin was reportedly 61 to 39 according to Neilsen/VideoScan. This means Blu-ray software sales have outpaced those of HD-DVD for the entire calendar year of 2007, with no signs of slowing down.

We're also hearing that stand-alone Blu-ray Disc hardware is now outselling stand-alone HD-DVD players, on the strength of the recent price drops by Sony and Samsung, as well as the introduction of Panasonic's new BD-30 profile 1.1 player. You can expect to hear more on all this, as well as strong sales of Sony's PS3 in November and December, at CES on Sunday and Monday.

This is the first Ive heard of such things. I expect the HD-DVD campers to go ballistic to discredit this. If this is true then HD-DVD is in SERIOUS trouble.
