Was just looking at the data for Sweden. Aside from the fact that their daily numbers are climbing, it appears that more females are being infected there than males. More than 2,000 more cases of females than male. That goes against everything we've seen with this virus, where men are more likely to be infected, as well as die from it. I thought it might be because of demographics, but the ratio of male to female is just about even (slightly more males). Anyone have any idea why this may be the case?

Next pandemic, governments should:
Close all major airports. No exceptions. All passengers on flights already in the air just before the shutdown should be temperature screened and quarantined for a few hours. All luggage should be sanitized. Close transportation hubs and severely limit train and bus movement. Local government should provide shuttle service to essential workers (and by essential I don't mean McDonald's workers and commercial window washers). Medical personnel should be put up at hotels near their job sites to limit exposure to their families and cut back on travel. Barricade public parks. Literally barricade them with high fencing. Only way to keep people out. Enforce curfews with National Guard if need be. People may not respect cops but they'll think twice about breaking curfews if they see GI Joe with a machine gun on his shoulder And FFS stockpile PPE and equipment. And stop being so dependent on China for supplies. |

I wonder how many small businesses would actually not benefit from operating at something like 25% capacity.
With potentially losing any rent or mortgage forgiveness, operating costs, and an obvious need to rehire staff, there have to be some businesses that would rather keep their lights off for now even if they're greenlit for a restricted opening. |

not sure on the rent/mortgage forgiveness. did that pass as a separate package or are you referring to the small business relief package which allows a portion of the money to be used for rent? |

For the loan to be entirely forgiven, 75% of it has to be used on payroll and the rest on mortgage/rent or utilities. I applied for a PPP loan myself on Monday, but not too optimistic that I'll ever see it, since the bigger companies are better at getting theirs muscled through first. We're busy here and haven't had to lay anyone off, but I could really use the extra cash flow (especially since I wouldn't have to pay it back), since fewer orders have been coming in. |
