I knew about Interstellar. First i'm hearing about Transcendence. Wally directing too? I'm interested.

Thanks for the link, looks good. Interstellar looks interesting. Knowing Nolan it will look great in 4k.

Yes, I’ve heard about it. Good to see some love shown to the more ‘blue collar’ 4K front projector buyer crowd . Looking forward to reading some thorough independent reviews after CEDIA.

Yes, I was puzzled why we started with Vaughn, who in my opinion clearly wasn't up to the task. Ozil was just drifting past him like he wasn't there. We introduced some steel with Gardner in second half but that was too late. I love Di Canio, but in my opinion, he is looking a bit out of his depth in the Premier league.

You guys were robbed…. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/09/usmn...remier-league/

That ‘deserved’ goal ^ could have changed the complexion of the remainder of the match, and thusly, the outcome. When I saw the foul I thought I was watching a defensive back cover a wide receiver in American football.

It always seems to happen to us. I was very close to the incident and my initial thought was red card. It was a goal scoring opportunity because he did score!!!
If you know what I mean?

The ref blew the call. If he had any judgement as to fair play at all, he should have red carded the defender and given your team a P.K.

No balls.

On the other end of the economic scale for those SoCal locals with DEEP pockets and/or theater owners or I guess just plain AV geeks looking for an event to network with others , despite not being specifically listed in the following flyer, the 4K SXRD VPL-GT100 will be on show -

For a different perspective, an IBC 2013 Wrap-Up from a ‘News’ guy - http://www.tvnewscheck.com/playout/2...o-the-4k-hype/

Which brings us to the concept of ‘immersive viewing’ or the “immersive experience” ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ve#post7856932 ) and how it relates to the human visual system....and why such viewing should be pursued, or at least respected, by serious home theater enthusiasts, videophiles, sports fans, etc. rather than denigrated (as some in the audio/video press have done in the past). We'll save this topic for another day, though.

So continuing, by adjusting your chairs and couches closer to the 4K panel/screen and watching the displayed imagery in that fashion simulates how we view real world imagery with our eyes in daily life because as long as the pixel pitch is dense enough so that we don’t perceive pixel structure (which 4K displays accomplish better than 2K displays at close viewing distances), moving closer to the screen places the imagery on a larger portion of our retina which therefore engages broader fields of vision, not just ‘foveal vision’ but also foveal, parafoveal and even more peripheral to that. In the display imaging literature, they are referred to as the discriminatory visual field (i.e. foveal), the effective visual field, the induced visual field and the supplementary visual field ( see the Conclusion of this classic study from NHK… http://www.ic-at.org/papers/91117.pdf )

For those who have, or may in the future, experience it in their eye doctors’ office by taking a Visual Field Test, the concept is similar to how you see, think and react to the peripheral bright lights when you peer into that machine (an automated static perimeter device) and they ask you to press the button/buzzer every time you see a tiny light flash. In other words, we humans don’t just *see* with our fovea, which is what the Snellen chart primarily tests….and a commonly quoted viewing distance chart posted on audio video forums is based upon. Sitting at traditional “normal viewing distances” places an artificial separation between visual acuity and visual field when we watch TV (thusly it decreases *realness*) because science tells us that there really is no separation in our vision or in our minds between visual acuity and visual field.

The ramifications of all this are that if you engage all of your HVS (human visual system) rather than sitting at Joe6pack “normal viewing distances” from the screen, you will feel more like you are really experiencing the movie (meaning you are there with the characters) or you are there on the sidelines, etc. of your favorite type sporting event rather than watching it like you would do for some documentary. In other words, increasing your field of view (which 4K displays make possible) should increase your emotional involvement with the content.

Isn’t this pursuit (trying to achieve a greater sense of reality over what we traditionally could get in our living rooms) why many of us went out (and some still do) to commercial theater auditoriums to take in a flick?....teenage years aside . Anyway, as I noted on this forum over a year ago, NHK termed this “visual realness” in their paper first published in a SMPTE Technical Conference Publication of October 2007 and then later published in the April 2008 SMPTE journal itself.

All that said, not much beats the flying EVS (eagle visual system), as I wish I could see through their eyes for a few moments in time, but this will do …..

Of course if some folks reading don’t have a dedicated home theater room and won’t or can’t rearrange your family room furniture (like for instance, the boss of the house won’t allow it…keeping in mind she does cook dinner for you when y’all don’t go out) and you’re not inclined to purchase a larger-sized TV to compensate for the distance, that’s o.k. too.

Then why not take a moment to become involved in saving a piece of Ameri-cana in your own particular neck of the woods by simply voting…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...79#post8145679 before it's too late.

Who knows, if there is enough interest, Honda may do more.

On the other hand, I guess some folks don’t need a Honda bail-out for their Drive-In because after driving into their driveway in front of their humble abode, they can afford their own wild thing out back.

Talk about admiring the climatic fruition of an awesome erection (hydraulic!) in the backyard with the beautiful wife (girlfriend, etc.?).

Cost - $700,000, not including fertilization by the gardener (of the grassy edges).

For example, I can tell you that from listening to Hans at the last HPA retreat which I attended ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...pa#post8094127 ) that he can be very candid in expressing his thoughts about the strengths, as well as the weaknesses, of 1st generation 4K. We need panels of this individual quality to serve as leadership groups to drive the progression of basic 4K to the next *level* ( see the bottom half of this spiel….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...te#post7325076 )

Hopefully, representatives from the various news outlets will cover this...as
it just doesn’t get much better than this group of folks.
On that note, interviewing Howard ( http://www.ibc.org/page.cfm/Action=V...VisitorID=2858 )
prior to the panel discussion at IBC - http://www.v-net.tv/walt-disney-stud...or-uhd-future/

As to HDR, which Howard discusses at the beginning of the interview linked above…it’s great ( http://www.m3dhdr.com/about-hdr-i-4.html ) BUT so far it’s proved extremely difficult/complex to bring to consumer market, which is why 4K rez has proceeded it.
