A HEVC proposal was just added which gives a detailed overview of ICtCp. The video industry has used YCbCr for over three decades but ICtCp is a big enough improvement that it looks like it will replace it.
That does seem likely. PQ is great when given enough metadata, money, and time but it was designed for movie production. A hammer is a great tool but I wouldn't use a hammer to cut wood. |

I only ordered Amazing Spiderman 2 as that's the only one I want, but it says it should be here by this Thursday. Looks like Warner still shows same February 28 or later for Amazon and best buy. If you want any Sony titles, go on Amazon now.

![]() I sat in at another roundtable; however, Jaclyn had a breakfast roundtable last Thursday at HPA 2016 on Constant Intensity Color. I think Friday too, but I checked out early that day. |

![]() However, given the expertise in the human visual system paraded about on the internet by Audio Video reporters/bloggers and such preaching to us about what we can and can not see and structures in the eye like the lens and retina, I’m not so sure they understand your carpentry analogy. Here’s a clinical human vision analogy for their sake… http://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org...ucoma-surgery/ Pertinent statement…”Each approach has its advantages and drawbacks.”…which is also applicable to PQ and HLG. |

![]() One of the most important topics is making progress towards the refinement of HDR support in HEVC. Engineers are taking this dynamic range thing seriously. ![]() |

As are astute cinematographers.
For example, due to bandwidth limitations at even large Hollywood post facilities (like in this particular case Technicolor) who do multiple motion picture projects at the same time. If you had to choose between finishing in 4K….or… utilizing the widest dynamic range workflow possible, which would you choose? |

Exciting times for sure. Kind of like the launch of Blu-ray…for those who missed that party. That said, before I have to take a conference call I’m off to the Prem thread

I have to think they will give "Mr. Smith..." an HDR grading, and maybe B&W will look more beautiful than ever, and that's why Sony considers it worthy of releasing it on UHD, that people will see a difference. |

![]() That said, despite being on a championship school boy soccer team, when I see someone like Messi play, I don’t disdain the fact that I could’ve never been like him, or hell, for that matter, probably anyone in the Prem league. On the contrary, I live vicariously thru watching him (them) play. ![]() If your current finances don’t allow it, then also take solace in that the next step up in next gen TV will be HFR (100/120 frame rate capture -> display) which will be of as much, or arguably greater, picture quality improvement/impact for football (which you’re also an avid fan of from reading the Prem thread), than HDR. By the time that particular parameter of the next gen equation is implemented throughout the U.K., you may well be financially capable and in burning need of upgrading your current setup which will be truly outdated by then. If the above two pieces of free advice don’t work and you’re not named in the Will or Trust of a rich relative or unknown benefactor, well, there’s always…. ![]() |

Sheesh........if you're really feeling left out i must not give a crap about UHD seeing how i have no problem waiting this mess out. I don't feel like i'm missing out on anything. I disagree about the excitement too. It doesn't feel anyway near the same. I guess i'm jaded.

I'm no expert, and I think by virtue of being a college student that I'm automatically classified as a "severe alcoholic" by most definitions, but it sounds to me like you've give your liver about 7 and a half weeks more of a rest than it needs.

I was super excited.
Then again, I had bought the HDR 4K TV last July to prepare, and was awaiting this moment. You know, the funny thing is - if my Panasonic ZT60 had never crapped out on me, I might be in here just like my buddy saprano - "1080p looks AWESOME on my plasma, I just dont see how anything could be better than the reference picture I'm already getting" - and I'm fully cognizant of that. Weird how life works. And now I'm here. Also, the difference being I was only a 20yr old student when I bought into Bluray in 2007 and gave up a lot to afford a BDP then. Now, I'm a 29yr old professional, and I wasn't missing out on being one of the first! |
