I take it you've read the book? I am wrong in thinking they messed up Finnick's pivotal exposition? I think with them almost making him background noise, it took the focus off of him showing the rescue mission simultaneously. And sort of undermined what he was saying. That, and they pretty much revealed his big secret in Catching Fire, which I found rather odd. Because it made him come off as almost content with it. Contrary to his dialogue in Mockingjay concerning his dealings with those who are wealthy.

How did they reveal his big secret in Catching Fire?

It's a hint at it, sure. But, it's dialogue verbatim (or close to verbatim) straight from the Catching Fire book. Which, in my opinion didn't reveal much.
