What's funny is, I didn't really pay attn to the director's career before Catching Fire. After I saw Catching Fire, I watched all of his other movies. He is really awesome, even if the material isn't always equal to his abilities.

Did you enjoy Julianne Moore's performance as Alma Coin?

She was fantastic. Just the right mix of welcoming and slightly sinister!

Jen doesn't miss a step in taking Katniss to the next level of this role. She is absolutely terrific, and really gets to play with various facets we haven't seen yet.

Agreed. She did a great job!

Sidenote: I just noticed that the thumbs up icon is missing. Is that a thread specific function?

I think Julianne was a perfect choice, she should bring President Coin to life in a way no other woman could've.

Just finished watching Catching Fire. Can't get over that incredible ending then the fade to black revealing the mockingjay then breaking free. Just a phenomenal ending!

Ready and pumped for Mockingjay: Part 1 this weekend

It's quite similar to the ending in Catching Fire, actually.

[Show spoiler]Katniss is looking at Peeta through a pane of glass. Peeta is struggling against the bands that are holding him down on a hospital bed. We see Katniss's reflection in the glass. Fade to black.

[Show spoiler]So the mind jacking has taken hold and Peeta is gone, not really the twister ending I was expecting but I guess they wanted it to be as theatrical as possible.

People were really shocked by the images.

This movie is quite raw and shows stuff that you don't expect to see in a movie based on a book targeted at teenagers.

[Show spoiler]Don't forget the very slick and cool Mockingjay animation at the end of the credits!

Runs a little bit slow to start but definitely gets better as the movie goes on, especially in the third act with two strong scenes. Full YouTube review:

Harrelson steals the show for me in the acting department as Haymitch. Was great to see Philip Seymour Hoffman up there. Mild recommend for those on the iffy side. If you're a fan of the novels though, it's a must watch (but you didn't need me to tell you that).

Julianne Moore definitely gets better (as does her character) as the film goes on.

I loved where they chose to split it.
[Show spoiler]That scene where Peeta attacks Katniss was INTENSE and I knew it was coming. Very well played. Same with when the bunker is getting hit with bombs.

I would definitely say I was surprised at the violence. Not off putting at all but unexpected for what is a YA adaptation.
