It looked like her trademark hair with highlights in it to me.
[Show spoiler]Was anyone else surprised they replaced Katniss' stylists with Effie Trinket in the movie?

Why were people saying there's no action in it? They stripped away so much that happened in the book and so the first film feels a lot more like an action film than it probably should.

Because when you compare it to CF, there isn't.

The tone of Mockingjay is completely different from CF, so for people who haven't read the books, it's like the momentum does a complete 180.

Of course it did, Mockingjay is the crescendo that occurs after everything comes to a head and people can no longer hide behind lies and misconceptions.

But for people who only watch the films, the slow burn in Mockingjay seems to come out of nowhere. Heck, even reading the books I felt this way. The first half of Mockingjay was very chatty, not a lot of action.

I know
[Show spoiler] Katniss was completely broken after the Quell and the bombing and losing Peeta. It took weeks to put her back near her old self, something they don't go into enough in the movie I feel. You just hear about it a bit and then she's back in action but maybe they thought it would make the movie too bloated.

One thing that kind of irks me about one of the changes they made...

[Show spoiler]They changed it so the Capitol went completely in the dark, and their defenses were totally down, thus making the rebel's hovercrafts essentially invisible. . From District 13's point of view, wouldn't a full on attack of Snow's mansion and perhaps any other potential high value targets be an even greater goal than rescuing the victors? Obviously Snow knew all along their goal was to rescue Peeta, and co..so he didn't make that hard for them, so in that sense, he wouldn't even really see it coming. And I'm sure there was the possibility of Snow not being in his mansion or whatever, but in war, I'd say the pros outweighed the cons there. Perhaps I'm missing something here that would explain this decision? (besides the fact that this seems too easy and make too much sense ) .

Yeah that was a bit odd but it was rather unbelievable in the novel so I guess they just tried to do the best they could with the material they were given.

Is that really the right price?

Nevermind, only available in the New Zealand store. Kind of pointless to post a link that affects one small country.

What can I say? I was legit shocked that the movie surpassed my original expectations. The ending of Catching Fire leaves you hyped as hell for the next installment, but as the months progressed, you start having doubts that because of the 2-parter finale, Part 1 of Mockingjay would suffer due to the slow, dragged out buildup. And I knew very well that was bound to happen.......or so I thought.

Mockingjay Part 1 isn't the action fest you were probably expecting, especially after the cliffhanger of Catching Fire, but that actually helped the film find it's identity and became the best thing about the film. A film about propaganda, and the "tit-for-tat" war that goes on between the Rebels and the Capitol. A chess game is the best way to describe the latest entry in THG franchise. There's more dialogue that really matters for one, and this is easily the most emotional movie of the three. The first 15-30 minutes may start off slow, but the remainder of the film grabs your attention and never lets go. Not once was I bored by the slow scenes or the dialogue. Minus one brief moment of shaky cam, the picture in this movie looked flawless, and I give Francis Lawrence tremendous credit for his directing in this one. As others have stated already, the grain in Mockingjay is beautiful to look at.

Jennifer Lawrence gives her best acting performance in a Hunger Games film to date, and just commands the screen every time she's present, which as you can imagine, is often. A big surprise for me was Liam Hemsworth as Gale, who I knew would get more screen time based on the plot of Part 1, and whom I never cared for, but his little dialogue scenes here and there were actually quite tolerable. Julianne Moore was a nice addition to the cast, as was Phillip Seymour Hoffman in CF, and both of them had a large role in this movie and just made their respective characters work. The one thing I can definitely disagree with Youtube reviewer Chris Stuckmann on (who I usually agree with), is that the story was not dull, and there were more action bits than I expected there to be throughout the film. So don't worry about lack of excitement, because the film is very well paced in that regard.

Finally, you're gonna love "The Hanging Tree," sung by Katniss herself.
[Show spoiler]What starts off as an innocent random song thought up by Katniss, ultimately becomes an anthem for the Rebels that drives them to take action and finally take down President Snow and the Capitol once and for all.
It's a track that I'm sure all fans of the series, old and new, will have etched in their heads for a while to come. If you thought the ending of CF was a doozy, then the wait until November 2015 is going to feel unbearable.

I give it my highest marks, 5/5. Better than Catching Fire only so slightly, because unlike the slow first half of CF, Mockingjay felt like a true standalone film, and had my complete attention from second #1.

[Show spoiler]If they would've attempted to bomb the city or any type of attack like that in the dark, both literally and figuratively, without knowing for sure 100% where the victors they were trying to rescue were located, there's a huge possibility they would've accidentally killed the victors in the process, along with Snow and his army.

At least, that's my take on it.

[Show spoiler]The rebels themselves had been bombed first. While the Capitol didn't do as much damage as they had hoped, the rebels were still recovering from the attack. Also, you have to win a war on the ground and not just by bombing. District 13 was not ready to follow through with foot soldiers just yet.

Btw, better quality version of The Hanging Tree:

Interview with Francis Lawrence:

http://www.jabberjays.net/2014/11/21...-theatrically/

Quote:
We get more details about the third installment including the length of the first assembly cut of Mockingjay Part 1, the decision of the split and how the idea changed (slightly), there are more deleted scenes in Part 1 than there were in Catching Fire (10-12 mins of whole scenes lifted out) and they will be headed for the DVD. Two of these deleted scenes include 3 and a half pages of dialogue between President Snow and Peeta; and a scene in the meadow in District 13. Francis also talks about the intriguing possibility of cutting Part 1 and Part 2 together to play without credits in the theatre back to back.

I thought the first two were boring, this one soared. I wish the poll was up so we could rate it. The movie felt very adult and I loved the score.
