They were meant to be awkward yet funny, still wish they had spent more time on how much work went into rebuilding Katniss into the Mockingjay from the broken woman she became after the events of Catching Fire.

[Show spoiler]There is no rescue scene as written in the book, apart from a mention afterwards which Katniss hears of using gas to knock everyone out, and they concentrated on that aspect for the movie. Still makes me wonder why they felt they had to show it though. Yeah, I know that film is a visual medium and the adaptations aren't done entirely from Katniss' POV so I suppose it was inevitable that they'd show the rescue, but by most accounts it's such a blandly staged scene that it was hardly worth doing.

There were a lot of awkward things they could've filmed differently. The way they were filming and trying to contrive these statements of propaganda were awkward for one.

Still good but not great. My least favorite of the series.

3.5/5

I just thought of something that would have been a cool way to end this..:

[Show spoiler]When Peeta is thrashing around inside of the room, and Katniss is observing him through the glass, Peeta finally catches a glimpse of Katniss, he stops thrashing, and the camera zooms into his face, and he runs through a similar gamut of expressions that Katniss does to end Catching Fire (vid below) where we can read the initial uncertainty but eventual hatred in his eyes. I think it would not only be haunting/unsettling, it would work as a nice complimentary scene to that one too.

The Hunger Games. Catching Fire - There Is No District 12 - YouTube
That'd require far too much imagination on behalf of the director.

Just got back from my second viewing. I enjoyed just as much the second time. My wife, who has read the books, enjoyed the film as well.

That's what I was expecting to happen. Was hoping it would!

It was probably so nice that he had to see it twice.

Maybe he hated it, and needs to drink for a few days before he logs on?

This, and it is flapping freezing in the Northeast right now. I would insert an emoticon but apparently there isn't one for cold

Just got out of seeing Part 1.

And it was what I expected - a good build to the main event that is the battle at the Capitol.

That's not to say it wasn't enjoyable-far from it. I thought it was a great flick. But it's knowing there is more to come.

Grabbing the $ didn't work out like they thought, looks like there's a chance this will be the first film in the franchise to finish below $400 million domestically.
