Heck, even a Panasonic Plasma looks 'HDR' next to my JVC projector. I sold my 54" Plasma to my parents when I bought my JVC RS46. I remember going over to their house some after and noticing how rich the colors looked...on just regular cable. Should be interesting to see what happens to SDR content in HDR displays. C'mon JVC, quit screwing around with fake 4K and start shipping real 4K HDR projectors with Dolby Vision! Papa wants a new projector under $5K. I'm not spending $10K+ on a projector when 60" 4K TVs are only $899. |

As far as SDR into an HDR display vs SDR into a SDR display, there is no difference. We keep moving toward a more accurate experience of the way the Director shot it, fine by me. |

Yeah, once spectracal is done and Chad B has the ability, I want to do some testing on this 930C to see exactly what it is doing with different inputs. Then we can move from there. |

God dammit. Frigging Gary Reber is at it again. The same guy who poo-pooed DVD because of LaserDisc, poo-pooed Blu-ray in favor of HD DVD, and is doing the same caliber of "predictions" for UHD. Couldn't be because the man who turned his magazine into the DTS Newsletter is upset that Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision are hugely involved with UHD and all his contacts are out in the cold? Nahh. ![]() |

^ "But Geoff, why doesn't that mapping bother you even though you moan about converting P3 back into 709?" Because using a wider gamut as a 'container' isn't a problem, it's taking a wider space and boiling it down to something else (with HDR into SDR on top) in real time whilst retaining some semblance of intent as to what that lower grade should look like that bothers me.

2 things: 1) Gary didnt write it 2) I can't disagree. Resolution increases are the least important thing about UHD for most non projector home users. |

![]() Yes, turned. In the early days of the magazine, the VERY early days he was equal opportunity, even praising Dolby Digital on occasion and preferring it in a shootout between formats theatrically. Then when AC-3 for LaserDisc was announced the magazine took a very nasty turn, coloring every article about sound. He even campaigned to the FCC to reverse their decision for AC-3 to be the DTV standard in favor of DTS, even though DTS had nothing to show at the time (and was the reason they weren't a standard on DVD). "It was very exciting to hold in my hand DTS CDs" is a line I will never forget, in an article on the first AC-3 LaserDiscs where he was forced to admit "didn't sound as bad as he thought they would" (and his guests thought sounded pretty darn good). ![]() |

He doesn't have to write it. It's called an "editorial decision" and he's been pretty anti-4K, along with Joe Kane, for a while now. |
