Independent distributors Raro Video have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray acclaimed Italian director Liliana Cavani's (The Night Porter) I Cannibali a.k.a The Year of the Cannibals (1970), starring Pierre Clémenti, Britt Ekland, Tomas Milian, and Delia Boccardo. A preliminary release date, however, has not yet been announced.

Synopsis (courtesy of Rovi): This story of youthful rebellion is taken from the ancient Greek classic "Antigone." The setting is modern times and Britt Eklund plays Antigone in a fictitious land where reality is suspended. Haimon (Milian) goes against the wishes of his father and the prime minister by wanting to become an animal. Tiresias (Clementi) plays a Christ-like figure. The only resemblance between this version and the ancient tragedy is that the three principle characters are slated for an uncertain future among the living. With a soundtrack by the legendary Ennio Morricone.

Raro Video has officially announced and detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of acclaimed Italian director Liliana Cavani's (The Night Porter) film I Cannibali a.k.a The Year of the Cannibals (1970), starring Pierre Clémenti, Britt Ekland, Tomas Milian, and Delia Boccardo. The release will be available for purchase on January 14th.

On the streets of a damp metropolis lie the corpses of hundreds and hundreds of boys and girls. No one can give them a resting place because of a law enacted by a repressive State. But the young Antigone, with the help of a foreigner, Tiresias, violates this rule in the name of pietas, undermining the established order. I Cannibali, the third feature film by Liliana Cavani, starring a trio of excellent actors (Pierre Clementi, Britt Ekland and Tomas Milian), is a modern reinterpretation of Sophocles' tragedy, made during the protest years of 1967-69. A film that stands out for its visionary intelligence, in the context of Italian "political" cinema. With a soundtrack by the legendary Ennio Morricone.
