Considering the BDA went with 10-bit video instead of 12-bit video I would be very surprised if they went with anything higher than 4:2:0. Just a guess but you might be referring to encoding 1080p as 4K.

How d'you mean, Richard? That 1080p encoded on a UHD BD could use higher sub sampling because of the improved compression and whatnot?

As much as I would want a better chroma sampling ratio, I hope this isn't just to allow for better upconverted files.

We need true 4k content not more Hollywood trickery. Because they probably won't say the original files were 2k, just that it's all UHD... all the time!!

Sometimes they're worse than politicians.

If they were to encode 1080p as 4K 4:2:0 than it could effectively be called 1080p 4:4:4. Just a guess for how they could support more than 4:2:0 without increasing the cost of the HEVC decoder.

But what about the luma resolution? I've read comments from people who wondered whether 4K 4:2:0 downscaled to 1080p would effectively have 4:4:4 chroma, but I didn't know you could do it the other way.

And folks shouldn’t worry too much about Ultra HD Blu-ray not being included in the decision making by the UHD Alliance, for rumor has it that our (Blu-ray’s) Victor Matsuda is Vice-Chair of the UHD Alliance’s Board of Directors.

Meanwhile, bikes are good to go and we’re off to thee ‘otter’ - https://www.seaotterclassic.com/

P.S.
PeterTHX, let me know if Triumph, the dog. shows up at the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend to bug you and your buds and remember not to forget to record the FA Cup semis.

I see the HEVC 3D spec has had an update, a few of them in fact, here: http://phenix.int-evry.fr/jct2/doc_e...nt.php?id=2495

I'm guessing they will be mastered on those Sony TV's in the video Penton. All looks good I just can't contain my excitement.

Looks ^ like Triumph didn’t show up. Maybe he stayed on in Rio after the World Cup and fell in love with all the surrounding scents and soccer?

Until then, Mike….visit DMPCE at Pinewood (2min ~ 50 sec. timestamp)

Studios in Buckinghamshire, which I think I already provided UK folks a reference to a few weeks back in regards to the British Society of Cinematographers Expo held on the lot, but in case you missed it, then - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...22ce954857714d

ACSS 2.0 rumoured for Ultra HD Blu-ray here: http://www.myce.com/news/sony-hack-r...details-75833/

It's from that site called Myce which pranked us earlier this month.

Heres a link to the draft papers on it : https://wikileaks.org/sony/docs/05/d..._2014.pptx.pdf

Apparently WikiLeaks got the information on it all

As someone in the comments section on my cs said "the April fools joke wasn't far from the truth, if you haven't read the link the online authentication has reared it's head again, like I said last time it was supposed to be on standard Blu-ray's. I can't see it happening, but I think AACS 2.0 is a given, that and anything else they can throw on there.

An improved version of BD+ is mention as well

I said that I wouldn't bet against some of the April Fool's joke coming true. I've always thought online authentication would be part of UHD BD in some form or another and I've already made my peace with it; a first-time playback authentication which then downloads the key permanently to the player isn't the end of the world. Well, not for me anyway.
