And unless it's some huge Class Action suit (which might not get the cost of a new TV back anyway), the average person isn't going to be able take Sony to court unless they have deep pockets, small claims courts or consumer protection might be an option. Changing your C1 into a G1 probably isn't the best idea if you think you can get any issues caused by it rectified under warranty. Fine if you're craving extra nits and don't mind if something does go wrong, but if you're happy to pick up a new OLED if it does, I'd ask why you didn't get a G1, Sony or Panasonic in the first place? |

Panasonic has no 77” OLEDs, Sony A90J is way overpriced and only has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. A80J same problem plus don’t like the matte screen. G1 wasn’t available when I ordered plus I basically have a G1 now for the price of a C1.

From John Reformatto the calibrator who has already calibrated several of both sets for value electronics
“RE the discussions of LG vs Sony this year. Although the Sony will have a perceptively brighter and maybe a more impactful HDR picture the LG has a ton more controls for calibration to bring the set to reference or very close where the Sony does not. On the Sony there is only so much you can correct and or customize. That said, the LG will have the more accurate picture which is why it's used as a client monitor at most of the post production houses. This is not to say you can't get a very accurate Sony but there is so much variation that i would go with the LG for accuracy.” Oh and look at that C1 won best 4K OLED TV https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/be...k-ultra-hd-uhd |

Looking at Vincent's G1 vs A90J video again and taking into account what i'm seeing on all the sets i've been calibrating, i have to say in my opinion, although the A90J comes out of black a little too fast, the pro's in upscaling, impactful HDR, brighter full screen SDR along with the heat sink design makes me favor the Sony. Even though the LG has superior calibration controls that let's you pretty much correct almost every kind of calibration issue that comes along, when comparing color accuracy by eye between the two sets, visually they are virtually the same. Although it's interesting to show on paper that one set is more accurate than the other, at the end of the day all that matters is what your eyes see. And Sony's picture processing is a winner in my opinion. |

Oh no no, If what you're saying above is correct, I would have to pick LG C-1 OLED over Sony. If near black handling also equates to better shadow detail and LG actually having more accurate picture quality, I would take LG. Unfortunately I haven't seen that with any previous LG OLEDs , Sony has always beat them. However it could be true that the C-1 and G-1 is step forward for LG OLED.

If you don't plan to calibrate go Sony's latest 2021 OLED TV.
If you plan to calibrate go LG's latest 2021 OLED models. Makes sense? Of course if money is part of the equation, or not. |

I can vouch for the calibration option. Although it's a tad bit more money spent, it's well worth it to get your TV calibrated. I got my LG C9 calibrated and have never had to worry about changing settings (other than Dynamic Tone Mapping which is more of a preference than anything). It's a great feeling just to sit back and enjoy watching movies or any content that I throw on my C9! Again, I highly recommend the calibration route. You won't regret it!!
