Well, if LG doesn't fix the blacks and the artificial stupid AI sharpening...I won't be moving forward with my planned purchase of an 83" G5. It's too bad.

This is what happens when marketing mucks with and/or trumps engineering, "More nits" (at the expense of blacks) and "Oh we use AI" (and have undefeatable artificial sharpening in areas of the picture). I feel like LG can easily fix the latter, but surely hope the black issue isnt inherent to the new [panels that seeks to increase brightness.

Is there undefeatable sharpening on everything or just non-UHD input?

Sony Bravia 8 QD-OLED...but no 77" much less an 83". Yikes. Thought this was going to be a good year to upgrade my LG 77" OLED CX. Not so sure. I guess maybe LG can fix the G5 83", but word was that Sony didn't go with the new LG panel (for an 83" model) b/c of the blacks...which is exactly what the early reviews are noting to are a problem.

@Esox50, you would love LG's new 83" or 77" G5 40-stack OLED TV. Our professional calibrator, DeWayne Davis tells me he can fix the G5's coming out of black when he does the full 3D LUT calibration.

We have an exclusive G5 launch promotion that gifts our clients with a 10% store credit and we also have a launch promotion for our full Q/C, proper break-in and top pro calibration.

That's reassuring to know. Does it require anything more than calibration or does it require a visit to the service menu?

A calibration very easily can involve the service menu (which does not void the warranty) as part of the process, when done professionally. It all depends what needs to be changed on the day when that particular TV is measured so you can't expect an answer to that in advance. It's not an either/or.

This just might be the year I upgrade to OLED, thinking about the Bravia 8 MK 2. Final decision will come down to reviews and the price. I am curious to see what Sony means by "more affordable."

I wonder how the new XR processor compares to the old X1 Extreme (the one in my current TV). Speaker tech seems to have improved as well...with stuff like Room Correction, Acoustic Audio, and Voice Zoom, I may be able to get by without a soundbar.

Thinking about the Z95B myself for OLED, but wondering if it will look exactly the same as the LG G5. I like Panasonic's natural picture and there's certainly a big difference in brightness between the G4 and G5 (comparing the white room Matrix scene)
