This could be a major hiccup if confirmed on the 2023 models.

If it's true and LG hasn't significantly improved their ASBL algorithm I've bought my last LG OLED.

Within a month of release, someone will post the code the studios are using to disable ASBL.

Unless studios are using a separate skew with a different firmware

Interesting times. A spanner in the works as they say. Boy I just really wish Sony made the 55" inch model for the premium QD in my market. It would solve everything

lol!! But in all seriousness, it's crazy it's taken them this long. But I'm glad they are trying to fix it. Like I said above, I hope they fix it with the older models as well!

@I DO BLU, thanks for posting Vincent's latest video on this issue. I watch his earlier video and it looked NOTHING like the G3 shipment we received Monday, March 20th.

I did the latest firmware update before I viewed the TV, but myself and all of the professional video experts I showed the G3 to saw no dimming on any content. In fact, we all mentioned how stable the TV was and that we did not see any dimming of the image.

I've spoke with the engineers and product management and this image luminance stability was achieved by many upgrades and enhancements in the new a9 Gen 6 processor, a welcome change in the "Panel Refresh cycles", and the new 2023 LG Display OLED module itself.

Or they just stopped the ASBL from being dumb as shit, as it was relying on average picture level rather than, say, detecting movement which is what you'd think an auto-static brightness limiter would be based around. But obviously not.

G3 looks amazing but I’m good with my G3 until at least the G5 in a couple years.

2023 G3 allows user to turn off auto dimming?

Will this be coming to the 2022 G2?

Is the G3 a big step up from G2?

@bokes, I copied your questions and replied below each of your three items:

2023 G3 allows user to turn off auto dimming?

- Yes, but it's in a 2nd "service menu" and other than voiding your warranty it's not needed to disable as LG's 2023 G3 has greatly reduced the ABL.

Will this be coming to the 2022 G2?

- Not sure what item/feature you are asking about.

Is the G3 a big step up from G2?

- Yes a very nice upgrade from the very nice G2. Here's some of the most important upgrade for the G3.

1.) LG's new Micro Lens Array that very nicely increases the peak luminance and equally boots the White and RGB sub-pixels so you get excellent color saturation and color volume with the increased peak luminance and increased contrast ratio. LG's new MLA that naturally increases the peak luminance, combined with the new energy efficient 2023 OLED module gives the G3 the ability to greatly reduce the ABL.

2.) The 4 HDMI port are HDMI 2.1a, which enables Quick Media Switching (QMS) or QMS-VRR to eliminate the black screen you see whenever you switch between devices that operate at different frame rates.

3.) LG's new 2023 α9 Gen6 AI Processor 4K with AI Picture Pro & AI Sound Pro
Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos

4.) The Wi-Fi has been updated to the latest and fastest wireless 2G and 5G “Wi-Fi 6”

Thanks Robert
In regards to #2- I was referring to the update coming to the G2.
I have noticed some dimming on dark scenes and static shots.
It is annoying and I’m not going into the service menu (too worried I’ll mess something up)

G3 sounds great.

I can't say for use, but it's unlikely we'll see the the G2 get an upgrade to support a less aggressive ABL.

LG is very good at supporting previous generations with very good firmware upgrades. In this case the G3's new passive MLA and more electrically efficient OLED module gives them the ability to reduce the ABL.
