Also from ATEME et al., I’ll waiting on this presentation to drop – AI for VVC optimisations and enhancements Session organizers: M. Abdoli (ATEME, France), T. Biatek (ATEME, France), E. François (InterDigital, France), and W. Hamidouche (IETR, France). The next generation video coding standard named Versatile Video Coding (VVC) developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) jointly established by MPEG/ISO and VCEG/ITU has reached the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) stage in July 2020. VVC introduces numerous new coding tools enabling around 50% bitrate reduction for the same subjective quality with respect to its predecessor standard HEVC. VVC is intended to facilitate the deployment of new video formats and applications such as omnidirectional (360°), High Dynamic Range, cloud gaming, screen content and 8K resolution content distribution which require special attention for compression and transmission. However, VVC complexity has significantly increased compared to HEVC and thus encoding complexity needs to be carefully addressed to take advantage of the VVC coding efficiency in real time applications. On the other hand, recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have brought outstanding performance in many computer vision applications including image super resolution and quality enhancement. These machine learning and deep learning approaches can be considered to tackle the problems of quality enhancement of the decoded VVC video and its complexity increase. They are also being considered by JVET and MPEG as potential tracks to enhance the VVC standard with new NN-based coding tools. This special session will focus on deep learning-based solutions for VVC video quality enhancement and complexity reduction performed as pre-processing, post-processing or inside the video codec. Topics or relevance are include but are not limited to: • AI for VVC pre and post-processing • AI-driven VVC encoding decision • AI-based coding tools for possible VVC extensions • AI for VVC compression performance improvement |

Sorry if this has been addressed (huge thread):
Are there any recommendations for quality 8K HDMI cables? Due to my setup I need one approximately 12 feet. The one I have drops audio when I watch 4K discs but is fine with standard Blu-ray. It's a real pain. |

What is HFR, and what does high frame rate mean for sports and gaming?
HFR allows for smoother action and more fluid motion – but how? https://www.techradar.com/news/what-is-hfr |

Given the slow adoption rate of 4K and HDR, I won't hold my breath for more widespread 120fps broadcast content. Last edited by BrownianMotion; 07-05-2021 at 07:35 PM. |

consider content equal to, or greater than 100 fps to be HFR, whereas 60fps is considered a conventional television frame rate. If memory serves, Fox Sports and ESPN started broadcasting in 60p, albeit 1280x720/60p at least four years ago. This white paper by Richard Salmon, formerly of BBC R&D, is considered one of the seminal works on HFR for television - http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/w...les/WHP169.pdf Back in the day, we actually got a little taste of UHD/HFR in a short demo - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post14556365 for those who could play it. A few months later, I think LG disabled the demo. |

Fox started using 720P back in 1997.
We all know that ATSC 3.0 will broadcast no higher than 1080P. So who will use 120 FPS for live sports? I've never heard of upconverting frame rates. It's not like resolution (1080P to 2160P which is how they are showing sports today). |
