Ditto. If 8K is where high end LCD production is going to end up - just as 4K panel production quickly usurped 1080p for the premium large screens - then that's where I'll probably end up, though until they return to per-LED backlight control then I'll be keeping my options open.

Really? So my measured which leads to my “meh” on the Samsung 8K is stupid. So what method is not stupid? Because the colour inaccuracies on the 900 is pretty high (even post calibration) to warrant their price. Have you measured the Samsung yourself? SMH

We know once 8K become mainstream or ready at the consumer level all of a sudden what they ''forgot'' they will ''remember''. Meanwhile dumb ass people buy into 8K. If I was a dealer I would not put a 8K TV in my store until it's ready for prime time. Screw Samsung and the rest of them. And if all dealers would do that, it would force them to put out a product , any product that's better and ready. Lets get 4K right and Dolby Vision right first. You know the watered down 10 bit panel version of Dolby vision. You know what I mean. |

The big question for me is will there be physical media with 8K? And even if they do physical media what that going to look like. Right now most 4K movies are upscaled from a 2K di because the studio finished film in 2k! Yes we have some native 4K but not enough because hollywood does anything to save money on there end. My point with 8K is will we see native 8K or upscaled to 8K and what's that look like? Were about reaching are own limit with our eyesight with 4K! And that's at 20/20 vision.

1. you see 64 billion colors and 2. we get true Dolby vision which we don't with 10 bit panels ''Dolby vision at the present is a watered down 10 bit version of dolby vision or really HDR10+ wrapped in a Dolby Vision logo. Wake up people there raking you across the coals with Dolby Vision with 10 bit panels. |

Cable does not meaning NBC,ABC, CBS. Some are still broadcasting in 720p! CNN 720P some 1080p programing. And I doubt they will ever catch up. It's costs money for these corporations to retool. And as far as there concerned what there broadcasting in is good enough for the average viewer. As far as I'm concerned these guys can come out with 24K and it doesn't mean a thing ,they are cutting off there nose to spite there face.Another words it's going to bite them in the ass at some point. |

I'm a proponent of 12bit panels, but they won't do much as the best content we have is 10bit so you won't see much if any improvement with a 12bit panel without 12bit content.
Even Dolby Vision 12bit does not support any extra bit depth. Dolby Vision is native to 12bit, but with 10bit content. The advantage with Dolby Vision or HDR10+ content is the frame-by-frame luminance level metadata and that can be read by Dolby Vision or HDR10+ 10bit capable TVs. |

![]() If the TV OEMs really want to make 8K the "must have" TV they are going to have to do more than just add pixels. They found this out when they first introduced 4K TVs. They need another "HDR/WCG" addition to make their 8K TVs better than their 4K TVs. And no - 12 bit color depth by itself isn't enough. And they need to concentrate their efforts on the 65 to 75" sizes. That is what consumers are buying today. There has to be an effort made by the TV OEMs to work with Hollywood and the Broadcasters to make 8K the best format ever. NOW . . . befgore the specs are cast in concrete. |

Perhaps eventually they’ll use 12-bit. Just like they upped from 8 bit for HD to 10 bit for UHD.

Momentum Signs Emerge In 8K UHD TV Ecosystem
The evolution of the 8K TV market continues to plod along in 2019 with the approaching release of the world’s first 8K OLED Ultra HDTV and the announcement that IC chip maker Realtek has introduced a new chip that can upscale 4K Ultra HD and lower-refresh rate 8K/30p video to 8K/60p images. In addition, video gaming giants Sony and Microsoft are each readying next-gen console platforms with support for up to 8K resolution gaming by 2020, according to Asian tech-industry trade site Digitimes. Both Microsoft’s Xbox Project Scarlet and Sony’s PlayStation 5 reportedly will feature similar specs for CPU power, SSD storage capacity and 8K video support. Digitimes speculated that since both gaming giants have made accommodations for 8K in their platform designs, 8K gaming is likely to become a strong early native content driver of 8K video displays and related devices. However, buyer beware that the complete specs for these consoles have not been released yet and first and second-generation 8K TVs made not support all of the needed hardware or software to accommodate the what ultimately hits the market. Meanwhile, the 8K ecosystem will also have a large presence in commercial markets including the medical, manufacturing and security industries. https://hdguru.com/momentum-signs-em...-tv-ecosystem/ |
