Default In Search of Darkness 80’s Horror Documentary.

If you’re one of those who ordered the $50 blu-ray through their Indiegogo campaign, prepare to be disappointed. Apparently people are receiving BD-Rs with cheap, homemade printed cover art and blistered disc labels.

Thanks for the heads up. I've had the digital download a couple of weeks and have watched just over an hour so far. Its pretty decent so far, it skips some films which id liked to have seen discussed. Was nice to see Carpenter talk about Halloween III on camera for a change.

My physical copy is in the mail somewhere in the world.

The main problem I have with it is that it isn’t even a documentary. It’s four hours of interviews. That’s it. That’s not a documentary. It’s a bonus feature.

Sure, there’s clips, but when I think of a documentary, I think of something like Crystal Lake Memories or the Video Nasties documentaries. Something with structure and a narrative/narrator discussing the history and cultural impact of the topic at hand. This is just horror celebrities talking about mainstream 80’s horror movies. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s something I’d expect to see as an extra on an the dvd/blu-ray of any 80’s horror film. Not as it’s own $50 BD-R release.

True, each film does pass by pretty quick. I have the "In Search of The Last action Hero's" doc aswell which is two hours shorter but in the same format of spending many 3-5 mins on each movie.

If you don’t like it, just flip the disc.

I’m sure there are tons of people who missed the ordering window who are willing to pay top dollar to get a copy in their collection.

Not for a BD-R with homemade cover art and a blistered disc label they’re not.

Received my copy today and can confirm all of this:
- disc is a BD-R (with fingerprint and scratch)
- case is the cheapest case I have ever seen (plastic is all wrinkled)
- posters are folded in 4 ! and shipped in a plastic envelope which further destroyed the posters
- disc jacket is very flimsy paper
- disc label has blisters
- package was shipped from China even though this was supposed to be a UK product. They faked the value on the envelope using $2.18 which is not very believable. Luckily it didn't get intercepted by customs so I didn't pay import tax

This is simply outrageous since I payed £58 for this crap. I could have gone for the £20 digital download and basically gotten the same value

And I also backed In Search of the Last Action Heroes which is probably gonna be the same deal. It has also shipped from the same location...

Just checked the updates and found this:

Quote:
Hi XXX, In Search of Darkness has received a handful of complaints out of over 3000+ orders and we've offered replacements for backers who receive faulty/damaged goods. You're BR will be perfectly playable, and we hope you enjoy the film. If you do have any issues, please email support@creatorvc.com, and we can help.
Oh boy, that doesn't sound very reassuring. Hopefully I didn't just get burned.

Jesus Christ. I put a comment on the Search of Darkness kickstarter and got the standard reply "we will replace damaged goods". Great but the problem is not faulty goods. The problem is you sold me a BD-R for £58 (and another £36 for action heroes.)

I have emailed stating I want a refund (at least for the difference between my pledge and the digital download) or factory pressed copies. I suggest everyone does this. And make sure everyone knows they were scammed with BD-R since many people won't even realise.

Last time I support this guy for anything unless this gets fixed with no additional cost.

Well it did for me. All that you described happened to the last action heroes as well.

Man, I was on Amazon the other day and came THIS CLOSE to ordering the Last Action Hero doc but I decided to come here first to read what people were saying and thank God I did. Dodged that bullet.

I just wish I didn't pay $60 at the last second for this shit quality Search of Darkness BD-R. Hopefully they make it right, but if not, unfortunately they've ruined this experience as a whole for me and I won't be contributing or buying from any more kickstarters and things like this. I'm just gonna wait until it's been verified by others to be legit before buying.

Supposedly there's another doc in the works called In Search of Tomorrow, which covers 80s science fiction movies. They better get their shit together or that may never see the light of day, or at least no one will want to buy it. Shame, the documentaries themselves look pretty good.

If you contributed through Indiegogo, be sure to leave a complaint in the comment section. They did state that they plan on fixing the issue, but I’ve heard that all before.

I also backed this and so am horrified to find this out!
My copy just landed in UK.
According to the website they switched to US manufacture but only 1% of orders are like this which is obviously BS.

I went back and forth as to whether to purchase this or not. After reading the post regarding the release I'm so glad I didn't pull the trigger.
