While I actually enjoy 'Crystal Skull' more than most, I admit the film has problems, but Ford was far from one of them in my eyes. He seemed more alive and rejuvenated than I had seen him in years. He loves that role, and he was having a blast playing the character again. He was older, but he was still Indy in my eyes. Seeing him take the role for a spin one more time is something I want so badly. So I hope it happens.
If the Spielberg of today can channel the Spielberg of the 1980s, then I hope he returns.. Just don't think we'll get that Spielberg Indy again. The Spielberg of about 1997 to now isn't the same from 1980s Spielberg, IMO. Hard to describe it, but there is just a certain "gloss" to his films nowadays. That's not taking anything away from his recent work, maybe that's just what happens over time.

Shia probably wouldn't come back anyway. He's badmouthed Spielberg, Bay, and all his films in recent years, calling them all, basically crap. Basically, he's burned his bridges. He'd be written out, no doubt about that. Either that, or recast. But Shia is too full of himself, and you can bet Spielberg wouldn't bring him back into the fold.

The few interactions Harrison had with Karen Allen were quite nice. There's still chemistry there, enough to help fuel one more film.
I agree with Karen Allen and Broadbent as well. Even John Hurt, in all his crazed glory. But it was really Ford's show, and he nailed it.

He's just matured, but 'TinTin' showed he could still make adventure films. So as long as that's the Spielberg that shows up, the movie will be fine.

If Tintin is the example you guys keep using to show Spielberg's still got it, then hope is truly lost. Tintin was awful.
Hard to say if it could have been decent if it was live action and not horrible motion capture, but judging is as it was made, it was just bad.

I wholeheartedly disagree. That was a very fun, 1980s, Spielberg style 80s adventure film. It also has one of the coolest chase scenes ever. That continuous tracking shot on the motorcycle was excellent, and showed how great of an eye Spielberg still has for action. The motion capture can be jarring, but the film itself is really, really good. At least in this cinephile's eyes.

I think Ford will probably retire after the new Star Wars trilogy.

no, he'll just move on to a different kind of role. Stuff like he's done in 42 and Ender's Game, where he fits the part and isnt trying to be the main star.

It honestly fits him well. He was really good in '42'. One of his best roles in years.

Would it be a good idea if Short Round came back with Ford. Maybe his charcter could carry the franchise forward.

I liked Tintin. I liked it a heck of a lot better than anything he's made post Catch Me if You Can.

I Love the Indiana Jones (even KotCS) easily my favorite film franchise of all-time. That said, I think a fifth film would benefit greatly from being centered around some sort of religious/biblical artifact. Let's face it, Raiders and Last Crusade are clearly the strongest of the four films and I think there is something about the Christian element that draws you into the story whether you are of faith or not.

It probably wouldnt "tank" since the last one made nearly 800 million dollars worldwide. I dont think it would match that but it definitely wouldn't flop.

Agreed. While the last film may have left a bad taste in some people's mouths, it is still the Indiana Jones franchise. The name alone will draw people in. Who knows, perhaps people will be looking for redemption, and people will see the film based on that alone.

Let it go Indiana, let it go. Sorry but I have zero interest in seeing a 75 year old Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones....unless they can actually write a good script around the fact that he's 75 years old that isn't just a bunch of "I'm getting too old for this #@!# jokes and situations."

I think the words you're looking for are Janusz Kaminski.

I'd like to see a film set in the early 60's with the Maguffin being Excalibur. You could tie into the whole Kennedy era (known as "Camelot"). Lots to explore there thematically, I think.

Obviously I disagree and I really wanted to love that film. If you think back to various scenes in Raiders where Indy had to seem concerned, Indy's conversation with Brody when Brody tells him that "they want you to go for it," the scene with Marion on the sub where Indy is sore all over his body, everything works, as did the scenes between Ford and Sean Connery in the third film. When Indy doesn't know what to say to his father or when he meets the knight, I believed all of it. And even though I liked the second film less, when Indy is screaming at Willie to pull the lever or his relationship with Short Round, it all worked for me.

Having said that, even though I happen to like Karen Allen more than most and she was great in the initial scenes in Marion's bar, when she tried to act with the monkey, her movements were mechanical and false.

But in Skull, when Indy is in the quicksand, it simply wasn't believable. It was almost like porno film acting. It was line readings with poor facial expressions. And Karen Allen's performance only worked when she smiled.

I obviously wasn't on the set and don't know what went on there, but intuitively, my bet is that it wasn't dissimilar to what happened with the PT Star Wars - where Lucas paid far more attention to the virtual sets and special effects than to the actors' performances and even though Spielberg is a far better director of actors than Lucas.

All IMO, of course. Having said all that, there's nothing I would like better than for Spielberg, Ford, et al to make a great Indiana Jones movie. I'm just not sure they have it in them. And Ford's recent performances in Paranoia, Ender's Game and Cowboys & Aliens don't reassure me , although I thought he was superb as Branch Rickey in "42". If he takes the next Indy film as seriously as he took that, then he'd be great.

Crystal Skull was a bit of a disappointment, but there was a decent story buried under what they were going for. It could've used a few more rewrites and less influence from George Lucas. Explain the aliens better, cut down the stupid humor, give Ray Winstone something better to work with, play up the era more.
