Yeah, I just hate it when those despicable youngsters haven’t seen the same things as me, especially the more time passes by.

Terminator Dark Fate is the current wow factor holder for deaging effects for me.
That last scene in Gemini is so conspicuously awful that it must've been a pick-up, a last minute addition that meant they had to rush it through. The rest of him in that movie is, IMO, astonishingly good.

I love the work in the Dark Fate prologue too but it's only for a few scant minutes of screen time, less than that even, so while it's excellent we don't know how it would've held up had they needed to properly act their way through a scene. But yeah, it follows the same kind of technique as Gemini: paste a digital head onto a body (in this case stand-ins whereas Junior was always being played by Will, apart from stunt scenes etc) rather than taking the actual actor and de-ageing them.

I don't hate it. I just don't understand what a 20 year old would consider to be a "classic" film or even remotely want to get into film if it weren't for, by and large, 1965-1995.

Gemini looked way weirder than Irishman.

Maybe they should Gemini Man it and just go fully CG for Indy. Seriously that is how ridiculous this late in the day project is.
Wasn't advocating they do it for an entire movie. But for a flashback or some of the more intense stuntwork that Ford simply can't do, there are options to do a CG head/human double rather than a full CG replacement.

If I liked the movie more then I'm sure I could look past it, but I don't so I can't.

And I don't care how much ILM tout their new witness camera system that doesn't require a load of mocap gear on the performers because they got their virtual asses handed to them by what Weta did with Will Smith on Gemini Man: full CG head replacement using the original mo-capped performer as reference and the result is astonishingly good. Not all the way perfect in every shot but it massacres what ILM did on Irishman, especially that quick WWII insert of De Niro which really does look like shite.

Obviously that was for a fairly small role as Junior in a 2hr movie rather than having to de-age three performers across a 3½ hour movie (although they had quintuple-double the workload as they had to animate Junior in 120fps 3D) but even so, that's the way forward for stuff like this and if ILM were to get it to that sort of quality for Indy 5 - I could totally see them doing the opening teaser in a de-aged stylee - then I'm game.
Honestly, ILM deserves all the credit in the world for working with Scorsese and the cast's mandate that they not have tracking dots. That they were able to make it look as good as it does is astonishing, small warts and all. I don't get the infatuation with the deepfake stuff; you can't just replace the entire performance with work that the actor did decades earlier. They still need to give a new, organic performance and then ILM has to work that.

But yeah, agreed that Junior fared better, except for that last scene (which we both seem to agree was a pickup, because I remember noting the same thing on opening night (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=302)). Harrison Ford may not have Will Smith's physicality but he should be more spry than any of the Irish Men, so that'd probably be the better option.

Again, in a limited capacity. Not saying I want an entire movie of de-aged/tweaked Ford-as-Indy. But for a flashback or some of the more elaborate stuntwork.

hearing about all this de-aging crap really makes me yearn for a return to the days of films that didnt have CGI. i mean dont get me wrong, Jurassic Park was a masterpiece... but it was a film about living dinosaurs. is Hollywood so hard up for actors that they need to use geriatric actors and digitally alter them to appear younger? thats just pathetic. give some younger actors a chance

Yeah, all films today full of de-aged old actors. The young actors are begging for work now.

Anyway, I hope Spielberg can make this as a tribute to his old pal somehow.

Maybe if Hollywood had an original idea up its ass they wouldn't have to de-age the actors we still care about to have them in the only characters movie audiences still relate to.

Digitally altering their appearance is more disrespectful to the elderly than any of my criticism leveled at it is.

Harrison was on Ellen today.

The story has now changed.

She asked him about filming and he now says they start "late summer."

Now it's scheduling issues with the cast:

(3:45)

And he wants this to be the best Indiana Jones movie.

From his words in combination with his gesticulations, I’m inferring he means it starts filming in the “summer” and will continue filming into “late summer”.

Convinced after i saw the amazing American Sniper.
Bradley doesn't have the charisma. Chris Pratt would be any day better than him.
